Issues with mechanical keyboard

I picked up a mini Keycool 87 from China in August 2015 and recently it is giving me trouble.

The 'M' key frequently does not register key strokes unless repeatedly pressed and when it does it can register between 1-3 key strokes. In addition the space bar frequently registers 2 key strokes. This is a big issue as I'm writing up my PhD thesis. I removed all the caps and cleaned it with water and a Q-tip and a can of air but it didn't fix the problem. It'd s pity because prior to these issues I was really enjoying the keyboard.

Does anyone have any suggestion for resolving the issue without replacing it?

I bought a similar Chinese keyboard for my daughter, two in fact, but one has started randomly disconnecting and reconnecting.

Cheap boards don't last it seems although her other board from the same manufacturer isn't showing any problems yet (touch wood).

Would replacing a few switches cheaply fix the problem?

Replacing the affected switches might fix it, assuming it isn't a controller problem.

I assume the Keycool is a plate mounted board? That and the LEDs could make swapping out switches a wee bit more difficult. Break out the soldering iron.

Could also be dry solder joints on those keys - have a gander at the rear of the PCB and check out the soldering on them. Normally I'd say it was unlikely but, since everyone and their mother is making mech boards now, manufacturing standards have dropped.

Does not smell of a switch problem, more likely a controller issue.

hmm, a switch would be easier to fix. That said, for some reason my 'm' started to work again yesterday. Even stranger is that now some keys are recording multiple key strokes with a single key press. I'm not sure if it is an improvement, I think it is less annoying.

Keycool boards used to be alright, i have one somewhere at home, it was costar oem so it was fine.

if you're getting chatter then it's more often than not bad firmware, not a fault, just not very good firmware.

In case anyone is having a similar problem, this was suggested to me on Reddit.
Do any stores sell Isopropanol in the UK? I was surprised when I couldn't find it at boots or Tesco.

The software doesn't help my few keys intermittently not registering, though I've found if I press the space bar on the side it works more often. it does fix the most annoying problem to 2 characters forward and 3 characters back.

Quote:
Buy isopropyl alcohol and a syringe. Fill it with a little bit of alcohol and get the needle in between the swift housing and the stem. Then squeeze a bit of alcohol in as many spots as you can reach and mash the key for a minute to get the alcohol to come out. Clean it up with a thick paper towel. I had two chattering keys and this totally fixed it for me.
You can read about the software here : http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=157671

Just bought some on the 'bay from Shiny Hardware. Although they are semi local to me, free postage was better than a drive out to somewhere that I don't want a morning out to go to

I also found it on ebay. A decent price for 1L, but I really don't need that much and I'm not sure if it will even work. I was hoping for a smaller amount from a local shop, but it seems online is the cheapest and only real choice.
