Hey guys. Looking to upgrade the amount of RAM in my x58 rig from 6gb to at least 12gb. PC Specs are below. Board has enough slots for 6 sticks of RAM. THIS is what I have in my rig at the moment, so technically I could just purchase this set and fill all six slots, but is there any drawbacks to filling up on 2gb sticks?

    I'm running 6 x 2GB sticks on my X58 without any issues.

I'm also running 6x2GB with no issues. Higher quantities of RAM may require a bump in uncore voltage because of the increased strain on the memory controller, especially if you want to run it all at 1600MHz. I've been running mine at 1500ish because I have the CPU overlcocked, but there have been no stability issues for me and the uncore is very low, about 1.3v iirc.

    I'm running 6 x 4GB at 2000MHz and haven't had to tweak anything.

im running a mix match 6x2GB kit, 3 patriot, 3 Kingston (given to me free by Bit-tech from what i think was a old x58 test/review kit).

amazingly all running with good timings and even a slight 150mhz overclock at stock volts! Stable as a house.

That is nice to hear. Another 3x2gb set only cost me £39. 3x4 set was £60 but I've bought so much recently that £20 is a huge difference right now

Been running 3x2 + 3x4 for couple years without problems.
I'm also will be upgrading my ram next week and will be selling my old 3x2GB (cm3x2h1600c8d) sticks. Drop me a pm if you would be interested.
