Cooling Is this the world's most expensive 120mm fan?

I need another 3 fans for my radiator. Considering 3 of these but perhaps I can get the price down to a more reasonable £750 per fan?

From other threads similar to this, apparently it's what traders on ebay do when they run out of stock, so they don't have to relist, just up the price to something ridiculous, so no one will buy.

I bought 3 on buy it now. He kindly reduced the price to £500 per fan. A bargain!

 

Right, in that case, if you all could chip in to give me a £1000, i'll buy it and **** this guy up

 

I saw something similar at specialtech website. Some Lian Li case at 999 pounds. Actually, thinking about it, being Lian Li that was probably the correct price.

 

Some server fans are actually very expensive - not quite £1000, still a lot for a fan. The San Ace fans that I got from the USA cost £60ish in the UK.

That is indeed expensive. I bet they look like ugly dinosaurs from a bygone age.

I have 3 cheap LED fans on my PA 120.3 rad. I was going to buy another 3 and have push pull. I've now changed my mind because I found Silverstone Air Penetrator 120's. They should focus the air and push it through the rad more effectively. I think it will be better with 3 of those than 6 regular in push pull.

They don't necessarily follow the UFO-esque styling trend of most LED fans, but I think they look great - the silvery metal frame and 9-blade impeller really does look mean

 

I'm sure Gentle Typhoons are made by those guys..

 

Nope, Nidec make Gentle Typhoons... but Nidec are right up there with San Ace, Delta, NMB, Papst - they all make very high quality server fans.

 

I remember reading somewhere this is due to them having a tool which automatically prices there product ever so slightly than a competitors. Unfortunately if competitor is using a similar tool it snowballs into this. Can't remember the link but it was to do with amazon sellers and a book which reached over $30000.

 

Why would it price higher? Surely the aim is to price the product lower and therefore increase sales... leading to giving away everything for free.

i wonder if this guy supplies government bodies, they pay over the odds for things (£2500 for a £400 computer)

 

If u look on the guys shop he has a few more things at a similar price.. like a 2Tb Hdd.

They're not just paying for the computer though, they're paying for the support contract and the knowledge that if they need to RMA something then it'll be handled quickly and they can get the machine running again asap. Whether this actually happens is another matter... There's the whole issue with "approved suppliers" as well.

On the other hand, having experienced what it's like to order equipment using public money I can say that I would really rather stay away from that mess. Who knows how the pricing is worked out in the end.
