I'm personally not a big fan of how the shot is exposed. In my eyes, this would be a prime candidate for some HDR adaptation.

I feel the same way, multiple exposures would have done good because of the tonal range needed unless you had a flash handy to bounce in the shadows. Its an awesome subject, great detail and history in it.

But the blown out ground detracts from the shot. The log at the bottom right is a bit distracting too. If you'd like it in there, move it up and left a bit so theres more of it. Otherwise I would personally move it out of the frame.

Pretty cool photo, the only thing that bothers me is that hot spot in the bottom left hand corner. Would look amazing in HDR though!

As has been mentioned, this is a prime HDR candidate :) 5 exposures, +-2EV. Even if you go back at a different time of day, take at least 3 exposures. There's a lot of shadow detail in here and you want to make sure that you catch it all.

100% agree. It's not too bad as-is, but you lose a lot of detail in both ends of the brightness spectrum. Framing and subject are great.

My attempt at HDR, but without a tripod i used the cameras exposure bracketing which only gives me +1/0/-1
And HDR is new to me :p

Looks nice but the direct flash kinda ruines it, a tripod would have saved it.
    But nice location nevertheless ;)

They said it was HDR. So no flash used?

Um, yah, there's definitely a color balance issue there. I prefer the original because of the color and wider angle of view.

    Original also looks much sharper.

Yea there was no flash used, I guess one of the next things on my list will be a tripod.

Thats nice. Gots a real "a head crab zombie is going to stand up and walk at me" feel to it. Valve surely pulls inspiration from these kinds of shots.

Not a big fan HDR myself, personal I would have gone for a remote flash behind the TV with a nice defuser maybe a cto filter to warm it slightly
