The title just about says it all. I am about to see about building a computer and instead of filling it up with all sorts of rubbish, as per all the other computers, just wondered what is the best piece of free software you have? Thanks

VLC Player. Proper useful, and trumps Windows Media Player.

InfraRecorder for burning ISOs (a thing I have to do, a lot)

    Oh and Mozilla Thunderbird.

    K-code

It installs and plays everything with media played basic. Its brilliant, I have it on all my pcs.

Also have a look at ninite.com when installing. You just click what you want and it does it fr you.

About 10 years ago I had a little program that used to run when the PC was idle and little woman about 3 inches high would walk out along the task bar strip off, then wave good bye and walk off again. I don't remember what it was called and it wasn't useful, but I liked it...:D

    U torrent :worried:

Divx player has served me well too.

I had Virtuagirl.com for a while but it's just too annoying and distracting, girls laying on my taskbar being all sexy.

"Get off my taskbar you strumpet!"

The forum really needs a "must have for windows" sticky thread and "best free software" sticky thread

I'm sure there was some thing along those lines last year, but a sticky or some thing along the lines of the bargain thread in the market place would be good.

That thread is for diagnostic software though not generally useful software.

Speaking of which can anyone name some programs that allow me to see what files are eating up my gigabytes? I've got a 1TB HD with 80GB free and I only know of about 200GB of stuff :eyebrow:

    Free Digital creation software :

    - MyPaint (a Corel Painter like)
    - Plastic Animation Paper (a 2D tradition animation software, just like with a light box and paper)
