Build Advice Yes! It's another First New Build advice thread!

Hey guys,

I'm finally allowing myself the indulgence of building my own computer using some good hardware; I've been stuck using underpowered business laptops for years now, and it's driving me insane.
Thanks to the excellent build guides bit-tech has, I've pretty much sorted out exactly what I want; with the only two parts to decide on being the motherboard and CPU.

I've already stretched my £1100 budget to the maximum, but could probably afford another £50 or so.
The main uses will be gaming and heavy photoshop work on this PC.
Not using any parts from my laptops, obviously.
The monitor I've chosen is native at 1920x1200.
Probably not going to be overclocking; I've no idea how to do it.

I'm entirely torn between getting an ASUS or Gigabyte motherboard; the two which I've singled out being;

And finally, the CPU. Scan has a deal today, the Intel i7 870 2.93ghz is at £223.24, whereas my original choice of the Intel i7 860 2.8ghz is £210. Would the extra ghz make much difference?

Help would be appreciated! Especially if theres anything in my current build set that I've missed or is questionable.

EDIT: Oh yes, of course, I need a good but reasonably cheap wireless card (a wireless card would fit in there, right?). Any recommendations?

you could get either board to be honest both are good.

id still get the 860 as £13 for 193mhz is a joke and you wont notice anything not with gaming or photoshop.

plus even if you dont wanna overclock you could sneak into the bios and raise the QPI by like 7 and have a 2.94Ghz CPU lol.

shame your gunna let down your gaming by getting a wireless card though wired is much prefered for good pings

if not the Abit Airpace at scan for £8 is a very good wireless G card

 

Looks alright, although I would try and get as many parts as possible from a single supplier as delivery costs will mount up!

Once you have made 20 posts on here you can sign up to Scan and get free delivery with them and more often than not you will be able to find at least 2 of the above products on there Today Only deals, saving you a few extra quid too.

Also in terms of overclocking many will be able to tell you how to add the few extra MHz onto the i7 860 and again save you a little. You can push it past 3GHz without having to change anything bust the base clock, it's pretty easy and there is plenty of support on here.
