Ok Ladies and Gentlemen, I need some advice/info.

    My current PC (about 4.5yrs old) is rocking out with;
    Asus P5n32-e Sli motherboard
    Intel E8500 core 2 duo (3.16ghz) CPU
    GeFroce 8800 gtx (640mb)

the issue at had is that 2 of my ram sticks recently died leaving me with a mere 2gb to run windows 7 and all of my games. I am planning on building a new rig (sandy based) in about 4 months...

So my question is this- if i buy the ram i was planning on putting into my new rig- something like
    Corsair CMP8GX3M2A1600C9 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 or
    Mushkin 996902 Ridgeback PC3-16000 (2x2GB) DDR3

ie something with 1600/2000mhz- will it be backwards comparable with my current motherboard??? it seems a waste to spend $80 ish on getting stuff that i will only use for a few months

Suggestions on what ram would be good to buy in future is also appreciated.

TL/DR- will 1600/2000mhz ram work in an old 1333mhz MOBO?

    Thanks
    Jimmy

No, DDR3 is not compatible with DDR2 motherboards. Its completely different. Welcome to the PC world, lol.

EDIT, sorry didnt see your request for what type to get.

I would say Corsair, g.Skill, or Kingston brands. All will do very well in new mobo's.

After a quick google search, I see that the Asus P5N32-E SLI motherboard is a DDR2 board. As such, DDR3 is not compatible i'm afraid.

    Edit; ninja'd.

I'm pretty sure that motherboard only supports DDR2 memory, the ones you have linked are DDR3 and will not be compatible with your current motherboard but will be fine in your sandybridge one when you get it.
Your best bet is to try get some second hand DDR2 for a few months and sell it on again you probably won't lose too much money on 2nd hand memory over a few months.

I built my mate a PC with that mobo & a 6600cpu .. he has two sticks of corsair dominator in there. DDR2 1066mhtz, he did off his own back slam in a single stick of 1066 DDR2 and it slowed it right down. I took it out last weekend, and frowned

As said above, just buy some second hand DDR2 RAM, or buy some extra value crap - it only needs to last until the new mahcine
