Hi Folks We're in the process of updating our GPU benchmarks for 2013 (and new drivers!) and are interested to know you what games you guys think we should be testing. Currently we've got: BF3 Crysis 3 Far Cry 3 but otherwise, we're open to suggestions.
Probably BLOPS2... Just because of the popularity of it.. Metro 2033 is still a very demanding game, and it likes multi-GPU set-ups too
Blops might be popular, but also runs on a bean tin, so isn't a hard enough test for modern GPUs. Metro 2033 is one i'll look into. Hitman Absolution maybe? We're considering dropping Skyrim; do enough people still care about it?
Arma 2 is the only other real demanding game. Hitman Max Payne 3 Until games like GTAV, BF4, Aliens Colonial Marine comes out, there isn't much that's really pushing our systems....
Will colonial Marines really push a system? UE3 engine AGAIN. Max Payne's worth a shout though Also, Skyrim is still the 5th most played game on Steam, so that's going NOWHERE. We used to test ARMA2, but it was patched with performance altering updates so often it was impractical to keep in the set.
I'm going to say it, but I might get kicked back out the door... Black Ops 2? I'm sure I can get it to run at 120FPS solid on my system...
Are you going to be doing 'inside the second' testing, or just averages? Battlefield 3 is still the best measure of a cards capabilities as far as I'm concerned.
+1 for Metro, it's a great game than can still push most systems Could also include something a little different like Anno 2070 maybe.
To be honest, people only want to look at results of the current games they are playing... So that would be, Assassins creed 3 BF3 Crysis 3 Hitman Max Payne 3 Skyrim (That game will never die, the sames as Oblivion, until they create the next best thing.) Black Ops 2 Medal of Honor Sleeping dogs Witcher 2 Far Cry3 Need for speed most wanted Dishonored
I wouldn't say using NFS: Most Wanted 2012 is a brilliant idea. The game runs like ass in some scenarios, and just flat out refuses to run better than ass otherwise. - Skyrim, Metro, BF3, Witcher 2, Far Cry 3, Anno 2070, that lot, completely maxed, should give most cards pause for thought, Metro does run like a pig on the GTX600 series, though, so it might be worth mentioning why some GTX500 cards seem to perform better upon it.
For me it would be: BF3 Witcher 2 Need for speed shift 2 Shogun 2 I think you should cover the majority of genres, and use the most recent and most demanding game in each genre. So shogun 2 I think will be replaced by Company of Heroes. BF3 possibly replaced by Crysis 3, and Shift 2 replaced by project CARS. Another way of doing it is looking at steam most played games and take the most demanding games from the list. But I prefer my first method.
If you want it to be for a general guide to the people. Black ops 2 must be on there, its most played pc game BF3 Witcher 2 ( easily the most graphical demanding game on the list) Skyrim ( worry with skyrim is if you dont mod it its not a real test of gpu grunt and if you do you need a beefy cpu to get anywhere near max fps) Need for speed most wanted 2012 ( highest selling pc driving game ) Assasins creed 3 hitman absolution Farcry 3 Starcraft 2 ( most played stratagy game) No point in testing Crysis 2 ( how many tests do we really need on what is a average game at best) shogun ( its a cpu test not a gpu test) metro 2033 ( its old and outdated it runs like crap on most systems due to lack of updates) arma 2 ( its not played alot by the masses and is updated every other week good luck keeping tests the same one graphics card to the next) planetside 2 ( theres more played games in the genre that are better and also the fps scores will vary due to it been online only so your server ms will effect the fps ) all 5 games are played very little by the general public and will likely not even be viewed by many. I read somewhere Bit techs highest page hit was call of duty says everything really. Theres also very little point in just picking the most demanding games going as its not a very good indicator of what people are actually playing. ( assuming you care for page hits, if you dont then just pick the most demanding title in each genre and be done with it ) Microsoft flight sim x is still the most demanding pc title ever made i dont see anyone recommending that you test it though.
Whilst I really don't mind people's opinions on stuff, and in fact, what BT decide to do for benching, I do wonder, what other titles being played in the MMOFPS genre are bigger? PS2 certainly isn't an MMORPG. Also the server lag doesn't affect the frames per second on PS2 due to the way the game runs. Not everything is server-side like a traditional MMORPG, but then as I mentioned, this isn't a RPG.
The games I would say are already on the list. I would say however unless it's been fixed, then there is no point with Far Cry 3 because even with SLI'd GTX680's overclocked or not overclocked, I cannot get past 45fps with AA enabled and it won't go past 60fps with AA disabled.
