Scratch Build – In Progress recognizer [060710 - Professional Photoshooting & Miniature Wonderland]

at the beginning of the year we were picked, as 1 of 5 modders to build a project for the Bequiet Casecon Contest.
The motto of the contest was “See your PSU with our eyes, as heart of your PC”

And this is what we´ve done for it.....
The first thing we made was to draw a few ideas, so that we couldn´t forget them, after that we started modelling a quick sketchup model to see how everything will fit together...after receiving our PSU we finally could take all measures we need to complete the modell and finalize our plans for the building process....






then we quickly started to cut out the first parts of the Case so that we could gain a bit of time







After cutting out the first sheds for the Top of the Case, we switched over and started to build the reservoir...that was necessary because we needed to know the exact measures of the combined parts so that we could plan the next parts in the building process...



















after building the raw body of the reservoir, we switched back to cut out the next sheds for the main body of the Case so that we could test the accuracy of our parts while putting them together for the first time....

Oh no...the colored plexirods are just placeholders which we used to put the parts together quickly while building this case.....in the end we replace them with threaded rods (which are a bit stronger than the plexi rods )


time for the next update

up to this point we had to cut/sand&polish a lot of plexi pieces ....but finally we could put together the outer Case frame....so that we could see if all pieces fit like they should.
After seeing that everything fits, we take the measures of the inside parts so that we could make the Inner Sidepanel / Radgrill as the next pieces....

Then it was time to cut out the raw Front&Backside of the Case, we choosed Radiant Plexiglas for it because it has a real nice oily mirror effect which changes the color depending on your Point of View...

After cutting out those 2 parts we decided to make some progress on the water reservoir which we already started...



























after that we started to build our custom Power Switch....

 

time for the next update:

after cutting out all the small parts which we need to build the power button and finish the Front we also made the mounting parts for the small I-Mon Display which we wanted to mount on the inside of the Frontpanel....

we also cutted small spacers which we will use to gain 1 cm space between the 1st Shed and the Frontpanel itself ...so that fresh air could get in....





as next we disassembled the Radiator which we wanted to use for that mod, because the metal covers of the Radiators needs a few changes and also a bit of fresh paint....






then we started to build a water channel which should be placed on the inside of the backpanel

 

Wow, that's a lot of power for an ITX. :=)

 

So much thing to say with such a big update. That water channel seem a great idea. Can't wait to see it working.

 

yeah...but we thought better a bit oversized than too weak...because we´re maybe going to swap the Mainboard for another one which could need the Power ...

we too....up to now the water channel lays next to the case... ...that´s because the channel should be placed on the inner Backpanel and connect CPU and Gfx watercooling blocks...but we had a problem with the watercooled GFX so that we had to switch the card for an aircooled modell (for the time until the new one arrives)...I think as soon as we´re going to replace the card we will add the waterchannel but up to then

then we glued together all the parts needed for the Case bottom after that we did the same
with the parts for both sidepanels
















after putting all parts together with we finished the Pump Top

Yup there's nothing to say more. Well thought, well built and impresive.

 

time for the next update


after finishing the pump top we put in the Hardware for the first time...just to see if everything is ok or if we got any problems that we didn´t see before...
Then it was time to finish the powerbutton and to solder the LED´s for it....
Beside that, we also build a small ring with a few LEDs in it, which is now placed under the mainboard for a nice glow























then after testing the LED Ring ...we started to build the SSD Drive Cage, it´s made of 3 layers because that way we could integrate a few more LED´s for the inside of the case
Beside that we also did a lot of small detail work like....mounting the small display finally....cutting out a small sheet of plexi which will be placed under the PSU...wiring the next LED´s...cutting out 2 side pieces for the PSU..
































and then it was time to finish this build...

I Love it. The layered look works well with the PSU. Placement of the reservoir is pretty slick too. I see you got a chance to use that iridescent stuff. How does it handle?
