6 x 24' monitors

Hi Guys,

Quick question, I have a friend with more money than sense and hes asking about running 6 24 inch 1920x1080, I have been thinking of 2 x 670's to power them. Would this be a sensible choice (the cards, not the 6 monitor )? Or would 2 x 4GB versions be better?? Maybe even 1 AMD card?? I hear they do multi monitor a little better.

Cheers.

2 x 670's (EVGA or ASUS) or even higher if hes pushing the boat out.
2 x 7970 (MSI, ASUS or Sapphire) or 2 x 7990 matrix card if hes a crazy mofo.

I assume he will be gaming nonstop lol?

Im not so sure if it would be a pleasant thing to use all the time, 3 seems like the more natural way of seeing things. Thanks for the feedback guys.

Two cards, at a minimum. If there's enough money, and the board to support; going to three might be worth consideration, simply to keep Framerates up.

Running 3x 1080P is enough to tax most 2-way systems to the limit, doubling that load would not be kind to performance, possibly more than double, accounting for bezel correction.

Probably wouldn't be. I'm not a big fan of having multi-monitor setups sometimes.

I don't even like 3 laid out horizontally because I feel like I can't use the extra peripheral vision. That and not all games support that resolution. Maybe 3 vertically side-by-side for some easier scaling but I think I'd stick with a single 27" or 30" monitor...then again, I'm a bit of a minimalist, so I like to keep my desk nice and empty, or simple at least.

Just to toss my pair of cents in, I'm running 3x 24s on a single 4GB 680 with no problem at all (3900x1920 for those at home). Granted I don't have any of the latest and greatest games to throw at it, but what I've got runs beautifully.

No matter what though you'll need 2 cards just to get enough connections since I don't think there's a 6 port eyefinity card out in the current gen.

Might be worthwhile waiting to see what these supposed GTX 680 Titan/Titanium/Ultra cards are like, that are rumoured to be released the end of this month.

If rumours are right the performance is going to be stunning, combined with 6Gb of Vram I would think 2 of them would cope quite easily with a 6 monitor setup.

Otherwise you would be really looking at 2x GTX680's 4Gb cards or 2x 7970's 3Gb cards, possibly adding a 3rd card if the performance is not to good to keep a constant 45fps in games.

After looking at costs I think he got a little scared! Now hes looking at 3 27", I think a single 670 should be fine, unless a 680 would be a safer bet for frame rates?

If he goes nuts again and decides to go with 6 screens I think you may have to go with AMD. I'm pretty sure (but not certain) that Nvidia can only do 3+1 monitors. Also with six monitors you have two bezels right in the middle of the image, which is exactly where you don't want them.

That would be over 12 megapixels!
If he wants that why not go for three 30" 2560x1600 displays? Similar number of pixels, good vertical height but none of the bezel right in the middle of your view rubbish.
How would you aim in an FPS game or see the track in a driving game with 6 screens?
3 monitors can sit on their own stands so he'd save a fortune on a specialist monitor stand too (I guess that could go towards the £3k monitor bill).

Just get one of those next level stands that hold 6 monitors. Can't cost more than about £200.

That way you have 3 on top of 3, and your setup looks like a bees eyes
