Hi guys. It's been a while since I last bought any PC parts, so I've noticed some "bleaching" on my current Asus VW246H monitor. So for Xmas me and my wife are looking forward for a treat with a new , family friendly monitor.
I've been looking around, asking friends for suggestions, watching reviews, and honestly the choice is so big, my brain started to hurt.
So I come here for an advice.
I chose the parts for my PC about 4 years ago, based on suggestions in this forum.

    http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=198956

My budget for the monitor is about 200-250, and then I'll be looking for a new Video Card. So the total budget is about 300-350. The more I save on the monitor , The more I'll spent on the card and vice versa. My priority is the Monitor, because the current card I've got is doing its job well. Later on I'll be looking a new CPU too, as I feel this one is getting too overcome by LAN video streaming to my Tablet and TV.
I can't stream and play without problems.

So, here are the specs on my PC, based on Steam system info page :

My MoBo is MSI, don't know the specs.

Most of my friends recommend me a Dell monitor. Almost all of them recommended an IPS type of display. I've read about the different kinds of displays, and IPS seems ok for me. I am playing mostly 1 game from time to time ( DOTA 2 ) and I am watching movies , shows, tv on the PC. Using it for some minor work related stuff.

So I am all ears and eyes , to look for the products you'd suggest.

    Scren size is 24-27.
Video card to be something in my price range - 100-200
    Processor 100-150.

    Thank you.

That list doesn't really help all too much other than tell us that it is an AMD CPU and a GTX 460.

Could you give us a more detailed list...? :)

Buy any *MVA or IPS panel (i.e. anything not TN) and that will solve the colour shifting issues. The Dell P2414H, U2414H, U2312HM, P2314h are all well-regarded monitors, and can generally be found for under £200.

With the used 27 inch Dell mentioned already you would have around 150 left of your budget for a gpu, the best new one within that limit would be the R9 280, however if you are willing to go used you could get a GTX 680 (they are in the 100 - 150 range).

If i choose the 27 inch option isn't it better to go for a 4k monitor at this point ? As the suggested one is just a bigger size of a already established HD resolution .
Also If I wait for black friday ( next week ) where can I find great deals for the 24 inch monitors mentioned in post #5 .
Also If i go second hand GPU , what is the most common problems with second hand video cards ?
    Is the r8 280 better than the card I currently have ? ( GTX 460 )?
    Thanks.

    The GTX 680 is roughly twice as fast the GTX 460, while the R9 280 / R9 285 / R9 280X are 5 to 10% slower than the GTX 680.

No common problems with used graphicscards that are specific to used graphicscards, just the usual risks of buying anything that is used.

As for 4K, not much point unless you up the budget significantly, there is currently no single gpu that can run games at a decent framerate at 4K and if you then went with 2x GTX 980 for example you'd be looking at nearly a grand just for the graphicscards.

Why not get the 27 inch for £199? Seems silly not to.

Are you likely to be playing demanding games or will it just be used for multimedia?

I will be playing DOTA 2 ( not so demanding ) and the rest of the time would be for multimedia and some minor work related stuff.

If your current GPU is already playing Dota 2 well then you can spend more on the monitor.

I don't think it's much of a deal tbh it's still 2nd hand and only a 24", The one I linked is a 27" all so has a year warranty and they will give a small discount if you say you are a bt member and they are well known on bt as a excellent seller and are highly regarded here, It's a no brainer really

The U2414h is 1920x1080, not 1920x1200, so if you're looking for a 16:10 monitor that rules it out. Between the U2412m and U2415, TFTCentral have a review of the U2415 that has comparisons to the U2412m.

So yeah, I will get the U2415, after reading the key advantages of this monitor over the other 2.
Also this one is the newest of the 3.
Now comes the other problem2. I have 2x DVI out ports and 1 miniHDMI mini on my Video Card. I am currently using the DVI for my monitor and mini HDMI for the TV. I'd like to keep the miniHDMI for the tv, but the new monitor does not have DVI inputs. What sort of adapters you would recommend? How much is ENOUGH to pay for an adapter of that kind?

Problem No:2 . Is there a relatively cheap option to turn your monitor into a touch screen panel ? Few years ago I remember watching a video of a new gadget that tracks your fingers and that can also be used as a touch/gesture device. What was the name of that thing and how much does it cost ? If i am wrong about this device, what about a normal externally mounted touch panel. How much and any good deals ?
    Thank you.

    - Use a DVI-HDMI lead (may need to set reduced Blanking mode manually for 1920x1200 if the EDID is not correct)
    - Switch to a newer GPU with a DisplayPort output
    - Get the U2412m which as a DVI input

As for touch: there are plenty of cheap touch overlays, but they're cheap for a reason: they're really bad. They're either an edge-lit IR touch overlay (limited multitouch, VERY poor accuracy) or a resistive overlay (no multitouch, degrades picture quality, still poor accuracy). If you need touch, it's be better to get a monitor that integrates it. If you just want Gesture support, and have Windows 8, then you can get a Kinect (1 or 2) which will allow some degree of free-air gesture control. There's also the Leap Motion, which tracks you hands in a limited volume above it, but still has some issues even after the more recent firmware updates.
