Simple question folks, need to run away from my old, tired and ageing HD 6950 Looking to play the latest games at 1080p (MGS 5, GTA V, Shadow of Mordor etc). Is the GTX 970 enough coupled with a i7 950? (Bottleneck possibilities?) Was thinking of one of the EVGA 970's http://www.scan.co.uk/products/4gb-...010mhz-gddr5-gpu-1190mhz-boost-1342mhz-cores- Or MSI 970's http://www.amazon.co.uk/MSI-GTX-970...UTF8&qid=1442635480&sr=8-2&keywords=gaming+4g
A 970 will laugh at anything at 1080p resolution. I personally think your 950 is still fine, but you could look at overclocking it - aim for 4+ GHz if you're willing to crank up the voltage a little bit, or ~3.5 GHz if you don't want to fiddle with voltages. Lastly, I would probably go with EVGA. I think it's worth the extra £5 for a significant factory OC, plus you can use the Step Up programme to upgrade your card if you decide you want a little more power (has to be done within 90 days of purchasing the card).
Just what I wanted to hear. Only reason I put the MSI there was reports of MSI and Gigabyte cards hitting the 1500MHz+ mark after overclocking easily compared to the EVGA one
Yeah 970 is a good choice, and I'd also say the 950 will be fine for the majority of games. This maybe even more true next year when DX12 kicks off.
Its the only Nvidia card manufacture id buy from. They have best warranty and there pre overclocked cards are very good.
