Hello im looking to possibly purchase 2 of the following but I have a few questions first.

Which will give the better performance in SLI or Crossfire....

It has to come with a very quiet cooler also....one which will keep the temps as low as possible.

Your help is appreciated thanks :)

For price and performance the 7950 is worth a look

Performance wise the 7970 cf beats the 680 sli almost every time so will beat a 670 sli as well: proof. Plus it will be cheaper.

What about just adding another 580 to your rig? For cooling the asus dcuII are best for amd cards, the 7970 matrix is a triple slot cooler so not sure if it will fit in crossfire but is cooler or quieter depending on what you have the fans set to compared to most others. Or watercool!

SLi is better than crossfire though...

Let's not beat about the bush here. Nvidia are delivering smoother gameplay via sli than AMD are right now. I'm sure there will be arguments about it, but it seems that microstutter is a bigger factor for cf setups than nvidia. Not to say it doesn't exist on both platforms.

    I agree!

And that is coming from someone who had HD7970 is CFX and now Tri SLI GTX 670 4GB cards. :)

Single card, get the HD7970 or 50 as people has suggested. :)

People keep mentioning microstuttering...ive not heard of this before and its something i definately dont want....being a bit of a hardcore gamer I want as much FPS as I can get.

I dont really wanna hear people mentioning about your eyes only seeing so much fps blah blah blah because although this is true....the higher the fps smoother the gameplay is and the smoother the mouse movement is etc etc.

Half-Life Counter-Strike is the perfect example...the higher the FPS the lower your recoil etc etc much better for spraying etc.

Anyhow has any of you had microstutter whilst running 7970 CF?

The choice is yours, and you can go on your own beliefs. HD 7970M CFX worked on my M18X R2 Laptop - It ran flawlessly. Why it doesn't on a desktop, when using the same drivers, I don't know...

But it was enough to but me off, and go back to NVidia.

Sold one card and RMA'd the other. I do not rate XFX at all.

As to your question about Microshutter:
The only game I have experienced this is in is Far Cry 3. Running on the HD7907's with the settings at maxed, 60fps feels more like 20fps, this is microshuttering.

So maybe after some patching and a more optimised diver, they maybe able to resolve this issue.

Now, I've always jumped between the 2 teams, so I'm no fanboy to either. But AMD/ATi have a lot of issues that need addressing.
My HD5970 was a right bag of crap - with major problems, that in the end, I had to take to modding vbios to make the card run in 2D Desktop as well as 3D.
    See my thread here:http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=185918

So when I bought my Aleinware M18X-R2 laptop with HD7970M GPU's, I was very impressed with how the CF worked. So when I came to sell it, and buy a desktop again, I choose AMD for those reasons, as CFX just worked with no issues on my laptop.
Going back to a desktop with HD7970 CFX, was not as smooth running as it was on my laptop, even though I was using the same drivers and CFX profiles as the desktop.
Overclocking the HD7970's by even 1MHz resulted in horizontal tearing in 2D desktop. (Similar problem I had with the HD5970, where I had to increase the 2D clocks to prevent this!)

So multiple card setups - NVidia every time (I've given AMD/ATi to many chances, and have come away disappointed every time).

Single card solution - HD7970 or GTX Titan

    Cheers,

    Simon.

XFX have a bad reputation for service which is something to bear in mind.

Im starting to get an idea as to which way im gonna go with this and its looking like NVIDIA at the moment.

Ive always had NVIDIA as i had bad experience with ATI about 6 yrs ago...bad drivers etc and just didnt like how they felt when gaming.

Seems things havent changed too much.

This leads me onto my next question...which two GTX 670s would be idea for my setup? IE: My case as all the air is blown straight out of the top and I want it as quiet as possible...

What resolution are you gaming at? Depending on 2-4GB cards.

Also it is always best to have the hot air exhausted out of the case, rather than hovering around inside, heating up everything. so stock coolers are fine on the GTX 670 as they run so cool. :)

the 670,680 and 7970,7950 will all do a great job gaming but for 1080p i still feel the best bang for buck is the 7950 but it all comes down to prefrence i suppose

    No worries bud. :)

You would be better off with 1 card at 1080p, unless you are running 120Hz monitor?
