    Hi All,

So I have been looking to find a new setup for development and gaming.

I've had a quick look and wondering if you can give me some advice on the setup I have created:

Cooler Master Silencio 550 Silent Tower Case - Black
    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-236-CM

    Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail
    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-404-IN

    Samsung 500GB SSD 840 EVO SATA 6Gb/s Basic - (MZ-7TE500BW)
    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-404-IN

    Asus P8Z77-V LX Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-514-AS

    Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX8GX3M2A1600C9)
    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-290-CS

Corsair RM Series RM 650 '80+ Gold' 650W Power Supply (CP-9020054-UK)
    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-153-CS

TP-Link 450Mbps Wireless N Dual Band PCI Express Adapter (TL-WDN4800)
    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=NW-057-TP

Is this a ideal setup? Open to suggestions.

The tower needs to be fairly quiet (I have chose the case above due to quietness.), I can possible downgrade the Solid state drive.

what graphics card is recommended these days? ideally budget of £200 for graphics card. (This i assume can get me a good one?)

    Budget: £800 just for tower.
Main uses of intended build: Development and gaming.
    Parts required: Everything in Tower
Previous build information (list details of parts): None
Monitor resolution: Will buy separately. budget of £300
Storage requirements: 500gb (maybe 250gb SSD and 1tb hard drive is better option.)
    Will you be overclocking: no
Any motherboard requirements (no. of USB, Xfire/SLI, fan headers): Everything
Extra information about desired system: Needs to be quiet.

    Thanks
    Slam

My 2 cents. You can save yourself some money by getting a non K cpu as you wont be overclocking and being as such you only need a fairly basic motherboard.

And if it's quiet you're after, Nanoxia's Deep Scilence cases are some of the best around.

    Why Ivybridge and not Haswell?

Both the CPU and Mobo you linked are out of stock, and I would imagine, not coming back in stock.

    Haswell Mobo - Gigabyte Z97-HD3 Intel Z97
    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-497-GI&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=2811

Haswell CPU - Intel Core i5-4690K
    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-540-IN&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=567

    Total - £259.98

    Cheaper Option - Non-K

    Mobo - MSI H97M-G43 Intel H97
    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-274-MS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=2813

    CPU - Intel Core i5-4460
    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-535-IN&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=567

    Total - £210

Someone else will have to comment on Graphics card, I'm out of date on what's best.

I was wondering that myself... why not 1150 with 9 series and i5-4***? Unless getting a truly stellar bargain, I wouldn't buy last gen parts new retail.
PSU, large ones are no longer needed unless you will be going sli/xfire. For single cpu/single gpu system 400-450w is actually ideal. Everything is so much more power efficient these days. Do stick with platinum or gold psu though, but you can potentially save a nice chunk of money by getting a smaller psu.
I would go for a gtx970 for a gpu. It's plenty powerful without being ludicrously expensive, though they are about 80 over your stated budget.

You mentioned your doing development, if it involves VM work then you would be better going for the non K processors.

for VMs virtually any cpu will work. I've seen atoms which don't support virtualisation work reasonably well running VMs. As far as I'm aware the non-K stuff only comes into play if your going to the hyper-visor level software like ESXi. For free desktop virtualisation applications such as Virtualbox or VMware player almost anything will get the job done.

    Thanks,

I will have a look at these options and get back to you.
I am looking at the Nanoxia Deep Silence 1 case and it looks rather interesting with being able to clean the filters easily and turning the fan off and on. At £20 -£30 more expensive I think its worth it?

Anyone had any experience with the case?

    Thanks

I agree with this post on the CPUs. For video cards, I would go with an NVidia card on your Intel setup. The Gigabyte GTX 760, MSI GTX 770, or Gigabyte GTX 970 would all be good choices depending on exactly how much you wanted to spend.

I was looking at that card however I saw the reviews on bittech about the 2 cards and it said the msi version is better. (Had a better review score anyways.)

Also I was thinking of changing the motherboard to something like this:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/msi-...way-sli-3-way-crossfirex-d-sub-dvi-d-hdmi-atx

the msi z97 gaming 5 boards. I don't know why but I assume that if the gpu and motherboard are from the same company it will be optimised a little? (Not to mention it looks better colour coordinated) Im i assuming correctly?

Does not make a blind bit of difference, matching brands will not grant you any extra performance or not having compatibility issues. It will only match looks wise.

As for the case, I don't know about your choice but I would go with the Fractal Design R5. I have an R3 and it is completely silent. I average about 17db outside the case as i sleep next to it. The R5 looks even better.

The MSI card may be slightly better depends if you think its worth an extra £23

Matching the brand of the gpu and motherboard doesn't have any affect apart from the colour scheme

The gigabyte board you selected is more budget orientated doesn't support sli, less usb ports, small heatsinks (nothing wrong with it depends on what you want)

You know you can get the 850 evo's now, small real world performance difference but think there about the same price

Think there's a slight premium on the 850 Evo's over the 840 Evo's on the 250GB and 500GB sizes but you do get a slightly longer warranty at 5 years as opposed to the 3 year for the 840 Evo.

Thanks for this, I was looking at the r4 but but didn't really check out the r5. Will probably get r5 now.

Didn't know 5 year warranty. Will see if it's worth it

    Thanks.
Yeah I don't think I need sli which is why I went for that motherboard.
Although I'm leaning towards the MSI gaming boards now.
There are several out just don't know which one, there all good.

I built a rig on a similar budget, 7 month ago, same uses (dev + gaming).

    The main components are:
    • Asus Z87 Gryphon (especially for the Intel NIC + 6 PWM fan headers)
    • EVGA GTX770
    • Intel Core i5-4570 (I'm not overclocking at it save big money)
    • Kingston hyperX fury 2x4GB
    • Sandisk extreme II 240GB SSD
I'm very happy with this rig and the 6 PWM fan headers are golden. With the new GPU, GTX770 dropped in price or you can get the GTX970 for what I paid.
