After struggling yet again to open a tin of tuna top supplement my cats diet I feel I need a simple to use but guaranteed to open any tin Can opener.

I have two types and both have there very real faults.

    A Butterfly Can Opener

And an Automatic One Touch Can Opener

The former requires the strength of Hercules to use and invariably will not cut the whole top off and then I must risk severed fingers to pry up the bit that has been cut.

The latter is temperamental in the extreme. pressing the button cause the beast to awake and whir and grind in a circular motion atop the tin but rarely actually cutting, on other occasions it does a great job.

So I am looking for a foolproof can opener. Please help while I have fingers left.

We use one of these and always worked perfectly for us (on 3rd one now due to them wearing out after about 3-4 years).

Plus we have one of these to open ring pull type cans as my son is small for his age and not very strong.

Spookily I have just added your top suggestion on a list of possibles.

I think my missus might be somewhat miffed if I did that Gary.

Feel that we need to look at something that does not require the use of the hands as my arthritis really would prefer it and the missus is not much better.

If you have a particularly large can you sometimes need to gently support the egde of the can but its not often. Only time we have had to do it is on the odd occasion we buy one of those fray bentos tinned pies.

Then you'd need an automatic, like the one GaryP recommended. Kenwood is a great brand.

I just use a spoon. But then I don't suffer with arthritis (yet).

I used that type many moons ago when in the Royal Marines. I could no more use one now than fly.

    Overkill you say?
This will open the tin, cook the contents and serve pretty much instantly...

Teach your cat to open its own cans.

If they can figure out door handles, they can figure out how to open a can.
