    Hey Everyone.

I recently upgraded a PC with a new motherboard (ASrock 960GM/U3S3) and CPU(FX6300). I carried everything else over from an old build such as PSU, Memory, GPU, hard disks etc.
After building the computer and powering it on I get the fans spinning up but no post beep or output to the monitors. Any idea what is causing the problem.

    I've tried:
    1. Booting with each individual stick of ram
    2. Booting without the GPU present
    3. Booting with a new hard disk

What else can I try or is the new motherboard faulty?

Have you checked all the connections to make sure nothing is shorting out your board and that everything is plugged in properly ? also try resting the cmos

Go with the bare minimum, so Motherboard, CPU, RAM and obviously PSU and check for signs of life that way. Every Asrock board I've owned has shipped with an unstable BIOS that can be put right by updating to the most recent iteration.

If you have another AM3 CPU it might be worth putting that on. Could be the BIOS it shipped with does not have support for the CPU your using, so going a step back with an older chip which it will support and then flashing to a newer BIOS may also help.

Had that problem with my MSI 970A G45 a few months ago hen I put an AMD FX 4100 in, had to go back to my old CPU and flash to a newer BIOS. That fixed it :)

Replaced the processor with the old one (Phenom ii 550) still nothing. Hard disk has life, as does DVD drive, cpu fan is spinning.
Tried different Sata ports both DVI and VGA nothing.

Ok I'm assuming you have tried booting with nothing other than the graphics card and RAM installed ?

It may also be worth taking the board out, running it ghetto style and seeing if you can get it to post. You may want to rest the motherboard on a cardboard box to give you some clearance to plug in the graphics card.

If it posts doing this then you know there is something in the case shorting it out.

Trying different RAM if you have any is also worth trying. If it won't post with different RAM then your motherboard is the problem.

With out a CPU nothing will happen, that said if the internal speaker makes a series of beeps then you know the board is alive.

Pretty terrible board for a fx chip.

Sounds like its DOA, swap it for aGA-78LMT-USB3 rev 5, they are cheap and have OK power circuitry.

What bios version are you running?

According to the CPU support list the fx6300 is supported from bios version P1.20

Thanks for all the help guys,

Couldn't get anything to even check what bios version and the phenom ii chip wouldn't even boot either. Running without the CPU didn't produce any audio sounds and running out of the case produced nothing so it wasn't shorting on the case.

Board is now returned. Will probably look for an alternative rather than the Asrock. Mr Bungle, I'll check that board out now :thumb: thanks for the tip!

    In my 2 system I'm running an MSI 970A - G45 and a 970A - G43.

The only difference in the boards is the G45 has E Sata Ports and the G43 doesn't.

Both boards work fine and they both work with my FX 4100.

I would say dead MB or grounding issue. Have you tried testing the MB outside of the case?
