Hi, Got a BSOD this morning when I tried to boot up. Anyone able to help with the error code? Thanks Just a quick edit, girl friend tried to boot it up and now apperantly there's no Blue screen, it just says reboot and select a proper boot device. I thought this would be a ram issue from the error code?
Sounds more like a dodgy hard drive. Run something like hdtune on it if you have a spare PC or parted magic if you don't.
Apparently some people are getting this after the recent MS patch Tuesday, from reports it's caused by KB2976897, KB2982791, and KB2970228. http://www.infoworld.com/t/microsoft-windows/blue-screen-stop-0x050-error-reported-systems-installing-kb2976897-kb2982791-and-kb2970228-248363?source=rss_infoworld_blogs
Trying to fix that with what you linked Corky but having trouble copying over two files as per this fix, http://www.reddit.com/r/24hoursupport/comments/2dk9o7/august_windows_update_ms14045_kb2982791_and/ , Though it won't let me copy the files from my boot drive to the other because I don't have permission even though I've changed myself to the owner of all the files? Anyone know why this is happening?
No wanting to hijack the thread but I have the same problem after the darn update. If you manage to fix your system please post here how you did it. Thanks!
If you follow the link to the reddit post it has two possible fixs. Though I haven't got them to work still get a bsod, but only comes up for a second so can't see error code or anything anymore. Think I'll just reinstall tbh be less hassle.
I managed to fix this issue by renaming C:\Windows\System32\FNTCACHE.DAT and then deinstalling the offending updates.
I guess you've tried a system restore? You should be able to initiate one from the repair section of the install disc.
I did try that but it came up saying my version of windows was not compatible with the disk... I just ended up wiping and reinstall. Lost a few things we needed but not the end of the world.
