    Hi All,

    My Sky router is only 100Mbit/s, but all of my computers are capable of gigabit speeds.

    Now, if I connect a gigabit switch to one of the ports in the router, and then route everything through the gigabit switch, will the network operate at gigabit or 100Mbit?

    Simplistically, the network will be like this:

    Interweb
    |
    |
    | ---> Sky Router (100Mbit/s) ---> Gigabit switch ---> Laptop 1 (wired) + Laptop 2 (wired) + Gaming System (wired) + NAS (wired)

    Thanks for any help you can offer.

    Andy

    your network will operate as fast as the switch it's connected to - everything that can run gigabit will do so to the switch, and the link from teh switch to the router will be 100Mbit.

    What he said. This is the correct way to add a gigabit switch into a wired network that has gigabit capable devices.
