Once you have updated HFM let me know what PPD and TPF you are getting, I'm doing one on my 2600k @ 4.5Ghz and getting 29k PPD and a tpf of 7 mins. Whilst drawing 140W at the wall :p

How the heck am I getting more on a 2600k than you on a 2930k, that's just daft. GPU must be really dragging down your system...

Would the clock have an effect?

    Mines at stock 3.50GHz.

What ya use to find out yer wattage?

OK got a P6900 now, but a few changes to the system and arguments. :)

Clock is stable at 3.6Ghz. (Core temps not changed much, if at all)

SMP client run with 11 threads, 1 thread reserved for gpu core.

    PPD: 40,421.8
    TPF: 0h, 24m, 35s

    ETA: 1.16:33:45

I didn't think the NVidia GPUs needed a core to be reserved? My GTX 570 certainly doesn't :)

It doesn't prevent it folding, it'll just slow down your CPU folding a little. If you have 2 Fermi GPU's folding it becomes REALLY noticeable as the CPU load is significant enough to take time away from the CPU folding job.

On mine for example I was achieving 30k on the CPU when measured in isolation, and 17k on the GPU in isolation, the GPU score would drop approximately to 14k, and the CPU to 28k, so by running them together you'd only get an increase of 11-12k despite all hardware running full pelt.

It's recommended best practice to keep one core free for the GPU to "run" on.

With one GPU (Fermi), it's not really that necessary to 'reserve' one thread, but with 2 it is and with 3, you should consider reserving two or your third card will be cut down on points. I only reserved one thread with three cards and my third GPU was down around 15-25% on ppd.

    Cheers.

I'll bring that last thread back into the fold. :eyebrow:

Even at stock your 3930K should reach 3.8 GHz when folding (turbo engaged).

If you are interested in folding efficiency (PPD/watt) just OC your CPU and forget GPU folding.

My 3930K runs @ 4.3 GHz 1.285V drawing approx 270 watts from the wall. Even on standard SMP WUs it gives approx 60K PPD and on a 6903 over 120K PPD.

    hmmm.

Tried a quick overclock with changing the CPU strap to 125MHz. (CPU was at 4.3GHz)

Looked stable, but the Vcore temp started to go high. Warning within 30 seconds of boot-up that it hit 80 deg C and then climbed to 83 before I reset CPU strap to 100MHz.

Also just watched the CPU hit 3.8GHz with SMP on all 12 threads on stock.

I see you are using a Hydro H100 (I'm using an H80) - your temps look high for that OC.

What speed are you running your H100 at ? (I have my H 80 on slow).

At 4.3GHz (didn't faff with the CPU strap, just changed the multiplier to 43) the highest temp I see on any core using core temp is about 64 Deg C if I have the computer in the house. At the moment it lives in the garage where max core temp is 60 Deg C (chewing a 6903 at the moment).

My GPU is a GeForce 6200 and it is used just for display purposes (this rig is for folding only).

I don't know how good the Corsair thermal compound is, I replaced it before fitting the CPU.

Did you make any other changes to your mobo for the OC?
