I know there is a film thread running but I think this is sufficiently different. It occurred to me after seeing an ad for Netflix or some such where it mentioned seeing your favourite films over and over again I though what are my favourite films? So in no particular order: Starbdust: (2011). I really do not know why I find this film so enjoyable as it is not my usual fare. Lemony Snicket's: A Series of Unfortunate Events. (2004). I just love Jim Carey in this. The Crow: (1994). If I had to pick my top film this would be it. Zulu (1964). What can I say about this? A classic. Witchfinder General (1968). This was my first X film. Very tame I admit but fun all the same.
I suspect, if anyone else had to name their top 5 favourite films, no-one else in the world would match your list, Kronos. Good work. Mine are so mainstream it's pathetic, especially considering I like to watch a variety of film types, but the films (well, franchises really) that give me the strongest feelings of affection and familiarity are: Star Wars (OT) - give me 6 hours to live and I'd probably opt to watch these one last time Back to the Future Rocky Indiana Jones ... and to make it a top 5 list of franchises I'll stick the Bourne trilogy in there too. Individual films that I need to mention too in any list of favourites: Swingers White Men Can't Jump Apollo 13 The Big Lebowski The Shawshank Redemption But really, I find identifying individual films for a top 5/10/whatever impossible. Asking me for my favourite films is like asking someone which of their children is their favourite. Edit: Oh My God! I forgot Bad Boys (1 & 2 and desperately hoping for a 3 one day soon)!
Such a hard question. But here is the first 5 that came to mind Pulp Fiction (Anything quentin Tarantino) Terminator 2 (Again the whole series) last of the mohicans Master and Commander Saving Private Ryan
First ones that come to mind: Die Hard (original and best) Pan's Labyrinth Kill Bill 1 & 2 Guardians of the Galaxy (best Marvel flick IMO)
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford is by far my favorite. There are few films that I remember so vividly and so often, for some reason it just struck exactly the right chord in me. Definitely, definitely not a film everyone will like though. For a top 5 I'm not so sure. Will probably edit this post to add them later. EDIT: I'll probably change my mind again, but (in no particular order)... - Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain (or just Amélie) for being fun and unique. - Porco Rosso for absolutely nailing that particular feeling of happiness typical to Ghibli films. - Hero for being breathtakingly beautiful at moments, creative cinematography and a quite fun plot. - Paprika for being Paprika. If I had more than a top 5 I would also definitely include The Emperor's New Groove, OldBoy and L'Illusioniste/The Illusionist (the animated film) somewhere. Choices, choices...
Alien - Because it's just great. Jaws - The first film to ever really frighten me The Shawshank Redemption - Predictable but it's just so good! The Life of Brian - Probably the funniest film ever made The Lion King - Still Disneys best ever film for me. Honourable Mentions: The Exorcist The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Superbad Die Hard Bullitt
Difficult question to answer but if I go by films I always seem to sit through if I notice they're on TV then it's these. Alien Aliens The Big Lebowski Ghostbusters Heat
Bladerunner. Because Bladerunner. Fifth Element. It's just a good romp and you have to have grown up with the comic works of Moebius (Jean Giraud) to fully appreciate that one. Dune by David Lynch. Much misunderstood and underrated. Ghost in the Shell. Spirited Away.
Young Guns 1 & 2 (lets call that one choice ) Stand by me (just loved it as a kid) Taken (Neeson's best film?) Heat (fire fight scenes just epic) Terminator 2 (Arnie)
I'd agree with Nexxo on the first two, but my last three differ: Bladerunner Fifth Element Batman (original Tim Burton version) Contact Groundhog Day But ask me tomorrow and my top 5 would probably change. tbh, I'd have difficulty squeezing everything into a Top 20 - which is why I have over 300 films in my collection
Damn I forgot about Anime. Princess Mononoke fo sho... A Clockwork Orgy E.T. The Extra Testicle Schindler's Fist Oh wait...wrong thread (damn you Shirty)
