I've just setup my 1st RAID arway after buying some new shiny Maxtor HDD.

I picked up 6xMaxtor 250GB SATA I've got a lian li v2000 case so they all went in fine but they are getting extremly hot, ive postioned them as fair apart as possible but i've also got m 2 Seagate 200gb SATAs in there as well. For all that know the LianLi v2000 its got a 120m intake at the front which should cool the HDDs but it doesnt (well not that well). Would putting 2x80mm fans in the back be good for exhausting all the hot air, or would another idea be needed?

    Regards

PS um... 1.5TB, now, what am going to fill it with?

You can't say "I have eight hard disks" without posting pictures!

Yeah, two 80mm fans may help, but remember that Maxtor drives run hot anyway... I can't think of an efficient way of cooling eight drives though, other than the forced air that you're using. You could get a couple of these, but I doubt it'd cool them more than the 120+2x80mm fans you're otherwise using.

Only thing I can think of is to pick up a few of these if you have an adequate number of 5.25" drive bays.

I did see these small heatsinks for hard disks the other day that fit around the drive, but I don't think they would be effective with that many.

Thanks for all your help guys the mobile rack wont really work as I've got a few things in my 5.25 bays plus this case has room for 12 HDDs so it would seem a waste, i'll have to dig out some old fans from some where

In due time, need to get all the cableing sorted out and hopefully make them run a little cool, wouldn't want any smoke getting in the way of the pic now would I.

If you've got an old case lying around, can you cut out the 5.25 bays and implant them in the space of the HDD bays in your V2000? That means you can use individual hard disk coolers like the zalmans with some 120mm fans in front to get really nice temps. This is a bit of work and the coolers will cost a pretty penny but it might be worth it. What temps are you getting? Oh..... WE NEED PICS :)

Since you have alrady seperate them..
I think you could do the old school way.
you could add a HD fan cooler for each of those HDs...

Then mod the case with a windows... add blinking LED among
those coolers. man a sweet Christmas tree this year

i read that you have intake fan and not exaughst.....gernally its consdiered better to have negative air pressure within a case....so stick those exaughts on!

That wouldn't go too well in a v-series case.

Anyways, whaddya think those 80mm fan mounts at the back are for? You've got a server's worth of hard drives, fill those damned fan mounts.

    Myself don't own a V-series case...
but during my research. the v-series cases use screws and rails to secure
the HDs... the space under the HD have enough speac for a Koolance
    W/C cooler..

    The Dimensions are : 10.2 x 16.4 x 1.5cm
