What would be a good card to get that will run in dual mode with my AMD APU A8-3870

I have an old 5450 card, but that does not run in dual mode.

I want it for using OBS Studio on my system.
OBS Studio uses hardware acceleration of Direct3D (from v10.2) or OpenGL (from v3.2). Without hw acceleration it refuses to start.

OBS original is the only way to utilise the 5450 card in.

    processor runs at ~80%

upgrading the card to one that will run dual with the APU should not have the load going up so high.
and means I can use OBS studio instead of OBS Original, which uses less resources.

    Which cards would be suitable?

24GB RAM in system, MSI a74ma-g55 Motherboard
Scan is my go to place for computer hardware.

something like a 5570 / 6570 would be a comparable match to the 6550D you have on die

Might it be better just to buy a decent GPU and use that full-time?

looks like the option is to get a decent dedicated GPU, as searching on Google suggests its hard to get an older card.

I'd prefer to go and buy new from scan. I live where I can drive there and visit in a morning or afternoon.

any pointers / suggestions for a card?

to work with open broadcaster software studio version.

thinking a budget of around £150

my monitor has a HDMI and analogue inputs, and I switch between the desktop and my laptop on the same monitor (laptop has HDMI out) and the monitor is a 1080

Do you have any particular allegiance to AMD/nVidia? Also, are you saying that you connect your desktop up via VGA? Not many current GPUs have VGA out as standard, so you'll need a DVI->VGA cable too!

I have no brand preference, as long as it works and does the job well.
just HDMI or DVI would be fine. an external switch would solve showing desktop or laptop.

    you might want to consider waiting till AMD introduce (and shortly) the new AM4 socket and motherboards - the APU , even the excavator based ones will be a leap up from the llano you have ;

I would probably agree that a CPU/board/RAM upgrade would be far more beneficial but that's a decent chunk of money right there.

maybe time for an upgrade then.
    what for £300 then?

    need:
    mobo,
graphics to hardware encode to stream not gaming as I DJ.
    ram
    processor or apu
all the rest should be fine to still use.

The kit that's coming out sadly doesn't have an on die IGpu - the ryzen based APU`s will be available later this year

I just upgraded my A10 with an RX480, whilst the APU CPU isn't a strong one, games run perfectly fine on it, mine arrive with dodgy fan control but I ran a few benchmarks and tried a couple of games and it flew along nicely, you could spend less on a lower spec GPU like a 1050Ti or RX470 if you don't want to use full budget, I had the same £150 budget.

There will probably be a lot of untapped potential in the GPU sue to the power of the A8 CPU but should you decide to upgrade CPU in the future when the low end Ryzen drops or buy someones discarded Intel kit at least with the RX480 you will still have a decent GPU to go with the upgrades, it is unlikely a new Ryzen based APU will get anywhere near its performance.

I use a 3 to 1 switch for HDMI on my TV it works great and was only 12quid.

About £30 would get you a second hand x4 760k if you wanted a bit more CPU grunt in your system without splashing out for new RAM, motherboard etc. but really it won't get you a lot.

might be tempted to go slightly over the £300 if that opens up the options and is worthwhile.
