My new work PC is going to get a 250GB SSD to boot and run from.
I was looking at the Hynix one on Scan at about £73.

Any other recommendations at the inexpensive end or reasons to avoid this one?

Jesus the price of SSD's is depressing.

I would prob avoid the Hyinx from scan as it is only a 2 year warranty.

Its 18 quid more but I would go with the 850 Evo, 5 years warranty is worth the extra alone.

Yeah, you're not wrong on the prices. I thought the 500GB Crucial at £91 I got the other year would be quickly eclipsed, it's now that for a decent 250GB as you said :miffed:

Good spot with the 2 year warranty, thanks. I'll carry on looking.

Intel SSD's also have beefy warranty if you can find a good deal.

Having a hard enough time saving for one as it is, seems like every time i look the price has gone up again.

    Yes it has !

The last time I bought an SSD was Black Friday last year. I bought a 240gb Sandisk for £39.99. They are now double that much. Even the cheap "wouldn't touch em with a barge pole" Chinese drives are £70 now.

Yeah, screw that for a game of soldiers.

Sadly i don't have much choice... can only run from a Ubuntu Live USB for so long...

Still, think i'm there and nope... price has gone up and i'm still short...

It really is a **** situation, the NAND pricing rollercoaster :miffed:

Luckily, I can get work to pay for this one, but replacing a larger SSD right now would be really painful.

I'd rather do without than prod those cheap Chinese unknown drives with my bargepole...

From what I have seen you are better off writing your data on a biscuit and then dunking it in a cup of tea than putting it on one of those drives. Immense failure rates.

I'd personally stick with Intel, Samsung or Crucial. As bad as the prices are at the moment data loss and corruption issues are worse!

I've had a few Samsung 850 Evo drives and they have all been excellent. About £88 for the 250GB one atm.

Thanks, more weight for the Samsung choice.
I'd have bought a Samsung when I was going for a 500 last time, but got a Crucial on a Lightning deal; only to find the Samsun on one a few days later...Grrr

I can't find a reason not to buy an 850 EVO, cheap stuff is, as you've all said, a false economy.

Off to prepare the work debit card...
