Case Mod - In Progress Mini-Lith. Completed...... in an on going kind of way

Time for a little build.

Due to one reason and another I Haven't done a project log for quite some time.. I've done a few builds just not bothered with logs. I wasn't going to bother with this one but thought why not.

The idea behind this one is quite simple. I need another rig for when my main one comes apart, also I wanted to build a mediaplayer/ do everything rig.

Also I don't like small cases so I thought I would try my hand at modding one and see what comes out

There is no plan cast in stone for this one other than to water cool it and keep everything inside the case. I have seen a few with rads etc all mounted outside the case. To me that defeats the idea of having a small case to begin with.


I haven't done much yet but it's kind of off to a start.

So far I have had a little head start in as much as the case I bought had a side window already fitted and saved me a job and also I have been playing with a few different finishes for the rads and a few other things.

It's not much but , just to get this one started, here's what I have been up to so far.

The previous owner looked after it well.

 

Lol. This one is like a warm up before I get stuck into something bigger.

That said knowing me this will start as something simple and end up getting way to involved as usually happens with my builds

Making holes

So I have really got things moving on this one today. Everything has been dismantled and will be heading for the bin I reckon.

The front window has been binned and a new one made. It will now be mounted inside the panel not on the surface as it was before. I can get a much more secure fit and it will not only have to support the rad but I have also mounted the res in to it as well.





While I was at it I decided where the pump and res would be going. It's pretty much a prefect fit.




And while I was messing about I dug out an old Ram cooler and gave it a little tart up.






Overall I would say quite a productive days modding

I wondered who would be the first one to come out with that: I did have a few names in my head and yes your's was in that list..D

When Dylan first saw it the first thing he said was "oh look you bought another fridge"

Can I ask what tool you use for cutting the large holes in the acrylic?

 

It's been quite a long time.

Nothing more than a hole cutter and a cordless drill and an old piece of wood to drill in to.

I just make a pilot hole dead center and then drill through it. Just don't have the drill spinning to fast because of the heat and the plexi melting or ending up with a nasty burr which then has to be sanded down

I also drill from both sides, so the cutter doesn't break out one one side.

Well thats the res now in keeping with the colour scheme as opposed to it's original colour.. Looks a bit better I think









Well that's it from me for now..

At this speed I'll have this build finished in no time at all.

How did you manage to get to a finished and can I say quite stunning paint finish so quickly? I must use tge wrong type of paint as I am sure I need to wait a few hours between coats.
What type of paint do you use?
Hope you don't mind the noobie questions?

 

From the look of Jeff's last post, he's using vinyl wrap not paint.
Instant gratification Assuming you can cut and shape the stuff to stick on cleanly!

Shiny vinyl wrap, interesting. I have never seen such a thing. I do have some white wrap but it is not shiny like Jeff's blue stuff, me want
Cases with me are only prized for a short time and then I seem to look for something else.

 

He's dead right Glen. I have been cheating. I wanted to experiment with it to see how it comes out.
The stuff I bought is not as thin and flexible as I would have liked, but on flat surfaces it goes on well and looks pretty good. It's also pretty easy to work with. I'll get some pics up soon of the panels and I have changed the window as well.

I got this stuff on Amazon. Just type in blue chrome vinyl film. Or i can dig out a link. It's pretty cheap as well

 

Looking at the backplate of my 980 and thinking will I won't I cover it.
