As you can see I have a connection but oddly I cannot Google. I get "This page cannot be displayed. Both my PC's are affected as is my tablet. My home pages of Bit-Tech forums, Facebook and Overclockers all appear but my two Google UK Tabs have the error message. All I have done so far is switched off the router for a while and then back on.
I mainly use IE 11 but Chrome is also affected with a bit more info with this extra clue "DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN" Would be grateful for thoughts or suggestions as I cannot Google for the answer.

Have you tried rebooting your router?

Is that not the same as switching it off and on? If not what do you mean?

EDIT: Switched DNS servers to Google 8.8.8.8./8.8.4.4 and all is well. Discovered that Dolphin browser on my tablet worked so managed to get info that way.

Yes just turn it off for a few minutes. I know it seems lame but its a good place to start.

there's usually either a button or a hole to poke a thin pin/un-bent paper clip that will reset the router...
sometimes seems to do more than just an off-on...

It is definitely a DNS thing as I am still having issues and altering the DNS setting on a Plusnet Router seems to be a complex procedure. I think a call to them is called for.

Edit: Just tried to call PlusNet and it seems, according to the recording, that there has been a major incident? and engineers are hard at work trying to fix it and it is pointless waiting to speak to anyone. And I was hung up on. So yet again not quite the award winning customer service.

I would advise against this method unless its a last resort. Doing this will more than likely wipe all the settings and the router will need setting up again from scratch.

Well yes, that why its called a reset...
But if your router is supplied by your provider 99%* of the setting will (likely) be default, so a reset will fix anything that has corrupted (hopefully).

(*if its supplied by Sky 100% will be default as you wont have been able to change anything!)

I think something messed up last night, I'm on Plusnet too and I could access some sites but others were nowhere to be found. I couldn't access Overclockers for instance. It's back now

Did you change the routers settings in regards to DNS as I note that is very complex (for me anyway) to do? Something about accessing Telnet is required.

Yes, I changed the DNS servers in my router (not a standard Plusnet router so no need for Telnet).

You can, instead, just change it on your PC but bare in mind that the changes will only affect that PC and no other devices on your network. You're looking for the Primary and Secondary DNS server fields. They'll be in the Control Panel's network section somewhere, depending on your OS. Change them to 8.8.8.8 (primary) and 8.8.4.4 (secondary) to use Google's DNS servers.

you can change your dns settings in windows.

Hold the windows key and press R to bring up the run command.

Type ncpa.cpl into the run command window and press enter

Double click on the your active local area connection.

    Click on properties.

Click once on the line that says Internet protocol version 4 (Tcp/ip) to highlight it.

    click on properties.

Select the radio button that says Use the following DNS server address.

In the Preferred dns server field type 8.8.8.8

Then OK out of all of the boxes

Thanks, I had already done that but there was no way I could do this on the tablet as far as I could see hence the question about changing router settings.

If you're on android, you could try the "setdns" app, available on the Play Store (although not currently for Android 4.3 it seems).

Edit: Give your router a restart, Kronos. It seems many people are back up now.
