My wife's grandpa got a lumia 535 as an upgrade, looked at it for 5 minutes, then decided it was too big for his pockets and gave it to me. As my current Galaxy S1plus is rebooting multiple times a day, I couldn't refuse. I wouldn't have picked it myself (no gorillaglass, and 5" is really to big for me too) but hey, it's free! Does anyone have any experience with these Win 8.1 phones? Is there a good readable "must have apps" list in the net? My current niggles: Microsoft Files App, doesn't show a lot, is there a file manager worth mentioning? (Have been used to Ghost Commander on Droid, works like a charm.) Microsoft Podcast...well it won't find any podcasts nor accept direct links nor RSS feeds, basically it doesn't work. Is there a decent Podcast player out there? The location and maps are grand, better and faster than Google maps on android, but is there a way to add your own POI list without making it available worldwide? Best Regards, Xir
Myappfree -free app a day Plex The Lumia Apps Metrotube/mytube Photosynth Remote Desktop Video Upload -may be a Lumia app UC Browser Waze There was a twitch app I liked but I cant remember which one it was. Again I've used a couple of file browsers, but I don't recall any having any details such as file properties. Hardly ever used them though. No idea on the podcast either! As for the maps, I've not seen mention that it's making my favourites available to everyone worldwide. Are you using Maps or Here Maps?
Stay tune for Windows 10 upgrade for it You can join the technical preview, from I would read up on the current known issues. I think, at the moment of posting, it is a bit too early to switch to the preview as a lot of work is still needed from videos. But it is coming along nicely. Look into it and judge if you are interested, else then that wait for the official release
Here Maps, or Here Drive+, as far as I understood, i could upload my POI's to OSM, and then hope they'll be implemanted. Problem is, they're not my property, and I don't think the owner would approve. I have them as TomTom or Garmin POI's, so I'd "just" need to load this list.
Hmmm, not sure, sorry I can't be of any help! I forget to mention, I've not seen any lists online that I thought was good to be honest. You could take a look on windowscentral.com, though I don't rate it that good as a general website.
On my Lumia 920 I've got: 6sec (a Vine clone; Vine is available too but I think 6sec has the edge) 6tag (an Instagram clone by the same developer; Instagram is available too but still in beta) 8 Zips Lite (compression/decompression utility) Amazing Weather HD Battery by Arthur Semenov CloudSix for Dropbox eBay Evernote Files (file explorer by Microsoft) Flipboard GMaps+ (combines Here maps with Google maps and allows offline storage of maps) Guru Alpha (Wolfram Alpha app) Metrotube (YouTube App) Network Speed Test All the Office apps, including Office Lens and Office Remote Parkmobile (pay for parking by mobile app, useful in the big cities) PDF Reader Phone Search (universal search on phone) Rail Planner Spotify Stocard (keep all your loyalty cards on your phone) Stopwatch TED (TED lectures) thetrainline.com app Translator Twitter Unit Converter Vimeo Wolf (Wolfenstein 3D, because Wolfenstein 3D) World Clock
That long list reminds me of one more recommendation: Is there a recommendable Keepass app? Or would "normal" windows Keepass work? The ones I found don't seem to work (7pass, 8pass)
Amazon Amazon kindle ATM hunter Barcode wallet Dark RSS reader eBay Fresh paint (keeps friends 2 year old happy) NASA's image of the day OneDrive OneNote PayPal Periodic Table ('cause I could never be bothered to learn the all) Pocket plans - seemed a good idea at the time, but a sketchbook is so much faster it's not used Royal Bank of Scotland Sky Map Tilesparency Timed2Perfection UPnP Player Vieather VLC
Flog it and buy an Android phone I'm still yet to see the appeal of the Windows Phone, I might change my mind when W10 comes out, but for me Google Services and Chrome are a must. Fingers crossed for Spartan!
Android always seemed a bit clunky and unfinished to me. The latest Lollipop update with Material design however is a huge improvement, as is the Google Calendar. I have yet to investigate whether there are widgets that could sufficiently substitute for the functionality of live tiles in Windows Phone, which I really like.
So it's broken already, dead screen, let's see what the warrenty says. According to "the web" this happens more often with the 535.
That's not a good result, hopefully they will just swap with a new phone as it's only a few weeks old.
Pretty much whats already above in the lists but to add BBC iPlayer, ITVPlayer, bet365/Betfair although I only used them for the national, Domino's, Instagram, LinkedIn, Netflix, NORAD Santa (Awesome BTW), RadioPlayer, SkySports, Speedtest.net, StarWars: Assault Team, Vine, Vouchercloud, Youtube(without the crappy ads XD) and finally a f**kin awesome burp and fart app!
