Hey all, I want to simplify my desk situation, and I'm beginning to think that an AMD Trinity setup might do the job. I want to be able to play my usual games (TF2 and LoL) at 1920x1200 with an A10 5800K in the smallest case possible. VESA mountable if possible. I'm thinking an Antec ISK 110 plus a mini itx FM2 mobo (once they are released, MSI and asrock have announced) , 8GB of 1866 RAM, plus a 256GB SSD. Main issue here is that I don't think the 90W PSU with the ISK 110 will be sufficient.. What can I do here? Am I expecting too much from the 5800K and this case? What are my alternatives? This case looks promising, but I don't think there will be a thin ITX FM2 board.. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811163219
Given the 5800k is a 100w chip, i think that will be a struggle. Have you looked at the antec 300 isk -150? Not too big, but with a 150w psu. Or there's the 310 if you don't like the silver one.
I really think AMD have dropped the ball with their board partners on Trinity to be honest. The ITX boards should have been available from release as thats what most people will want to do with it. Im itching to buy one but its pointless on an ATX board.
Yeah I don't understand at all why anyone would want Trinity on a full sized board, not sure what AMD was thinking. Do you think the 150w pico PSU or the PSU in the ISK 300-150 will power this setup? EDIT: This thread is like a TJ07 owner's club
I too have been thinking about a self contained ITX system, the best combo of size with PSU power in my mind would be a Lian Li PC-Q09FNB. Comes with a 300w PSU as standard. Also cooling for this case is rather good.
Have you considered the 65w A10 5700? You lose the unlocked multiplier and 400mhz of clock speed but it should be much easier on the power requirements.
^^ This http://www.scan.co.uk/products/amd-...e-34ghz-amd-radeon-hd-7660d-800mhz-65w-retail Was thinking of doing the same myself, the 7660D seems to be enough for my gaming needs.
Yeah I've seen the 5700, I just haven't found a review comparing the graphics performance to the 5800k.
I like the look of the Lian Q02 tbh, would like to go as small as possible, lack of any case fans could be a problem with the 5800k though I guess. Will be interesting to see how you do. TJ07 Cheesecake, wanted one for years and I've finally got it

I would hope it would be nearly identical, the GPUs are the same, but it would almost certainly be a bit slower due to the lower cpu speed.
No such thing as an A10-5600K, but if you mean the A8-5600K it uses the 7650D while the A10-5700 uses the 7660D.
Id possibly opt for 2133mhz ram. Kits over here have dropped in price and the extra memory bandwidth is good for the integrated gpu.
FM2 ITX boards are starting to show up on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Asrock-FM2A...aptopMotherboards_CPUs_CA&hash=item35c0cdd893 Hopefully the price will drop once they appear in regular stores. The A10-5700 also has strange availability, leading me to believe that it's being geared towards system builders... It's on sale for usually more than the 5800k from what I've seen. CPU will end up being ~$130, mobo is about ~$150 right now, probably will drop a bit. RAM ~$50. Case + power, no idea. Xigmatek Praeton looks like a neat cooler, should fit slim ITX cases.
I'd seriously consider the A10 - 5700, the hit in performance over the 5800 is more than made up by he lower TDP. Especcially if you are looking at those types of case and PSUs. I also agree with the RAM, get the highest MHz you can afford. Also be weary of ridiculous DIMM coolers, they are going to limit your case options and 3rd party cooling. My scythe shuriken only just allows for the height of some standard SODIMMS.
