Now we have got a bit of info on skt 2011 boards what’s your wish list? I have to come up with some new dream PC's for our site. So what would you guys go for money no object?
SR3, fast Xeons, 4x 580s (Tri SLI and one Physics.. just for sh1ts and giggles), 64GB RAM, 2x 512GB SSDs in RAID0. What I will be having is probably EVGA Classified, 3930K, 2x 580s in SLI, 32B RAM.. No SSDs.
Cheers guys, keep them coming, what case do you want it in? Re the web browsing, you would be amazed at some of the systems I have built for chaps playing chess!
I'm undecided to keep my current Lian Li (great air cooling) or go the Obsidian route. Even then I can't decide whether to go back to the monolith days of yore, and get the 800, or stay sensible and get it's smaller sibling.
Couple top end Xeon Top end Mobo Stacked up with fastest RAM as many of 4GB MSI HD 6990 as board can handle. 3x Kingston Hyper X 240GB in RAID 5 Some Blue LEDS
SR3, phase changed cooled, Xeons, few TB's worth of vertex 3's, as much of the fastest RAM as possible, 6x eizo CG303w's and 2 GTX590's+ one for phyx (all phase cooled as well). Better add that it should have a geothermal power plant and the phase change cooling needs to be completely silent.
SR-3 2 * E5-2687W 96GB DDR3-2400 6 * 512GB SST, 2 at RAID 0 on the SATA 3 connectors, 4 at RAID 0 on the SATA 2 connections (for storage) 96GB DDR3-2400 4 * GTX 580 watercooling (of course, or what's the point? ) Cubitek HPTX-Tank 2 * 1200W PSU (easier cable management, plus I think that combo will use over 1800W when overclocked).
I just spotted your post. It's all feasible, except that ther are only 6 SATA ports, so you might have trouble finding a few Tb of vertex 3 to fit Mind you, I suppose you still have 3 PCIe slots to add extra SATA controllers
4 of these http://www.scan.co.uk/products/ocz-vertex-3-480gb-ssd-sata-iii-solid-state-hard-drive-sandforce , although I'd go for 4 of these http://www.scan.co.uk/products/512g...d-mlc-flash-500mb-s-write-260mb-s-new-version Or just go for one of these http://www.scan.co.uk/products/ocz-...-s-w-raid-sandforce-1565-(x4)-3-year-warranty
I'm all for the vertex 3. I'm going performance all the way Only reason my build would have 4 580s in it instead of 4 590s is because that way I can use my chiller for that system and my SB system at the same time. 590's I would expect to give out more heat than the chiller can cope with. In fact my planned build for next year is almost what I posted as my ideal system - except I'll just have 2 * 240GD Vertex 3 and 4 2/3 TB undetermined drives on the SATA 2 connections for storage. Oh and 2 of the 580s might have to wait
Bragging rights Seriously though, I want a system that will remain high-end and not need upgrading for several years. And it might be my last chance to build such a powerful system, it's rare for me to have the sort of money it's going to cost Most of the power will be used for folding, as it will have far too much power to just use for browsing and writing the odd article
I don't think you'll need all that to remain high end. I still consider this rig I'm on now as pretty high end and it's 3 years old. It will be fast at folding, but damn... HUGE power bills will ensue. It would a killer system for video work!
