i was having small artifact problems with my 6800gs AGP 256mb, so i took it out an reseated it, and now i get huge artifacts from boot, i.e lines down the screen. This has happend before an after playing with it for a while i managed to fix it but this time i cant ive reseated it 3 times an it makes no difference. so, does anyone know what else i can try? id quite like to know what part of the card causes these if anyone knows. buying a new card is out of the question as i have no cash :-S anyone got any ideas?
Physicaly moving it around, dusting it off an cleaning the AGP slot and the AGP insert, ive tried it with another computer this time an its the same so its definatley the video card
Artifacting is caused by your graphics card's memory. From the sounds of it you haven't overclocked, so one can only assume that the card is actually dead.
just something to try, take a #2 pencil and use the eraser on the contacts to the agp. (A #2 pencil eraser wont leave residue and removes most bad things, I wouldn't recommend other eraser types because I don't know if they will leave a residue on the contacts.) this should remove most/any bad stuff that could form or collect on the contacts. just make sure its clean of the eraser, wipe with a clean cloth or blow off the eraser crumblings, reinsert and test! Good luck! EVRE
Ok so ive tried cleaning the AGP contacts and the problems still there, is there any way to clean my memory chips? ive removed all the arctic 5 thermal paste with the proper arcticlean solvents, anything else i can do?
yep its straight from cold, and the problem didnt occur before i reseated the RAM and GPU the first time
Is it still in the warranty? One of my friend also owns an 6800GS(PCI-E) & he also had the same problem but he is too lazy & took my card. But his problem is also same.
