    Hello,

About to install WS 2012 on my home server and have both of these drives. The server will be on 24/7

Seagate ES 1TB SATA HDD (ST1000NM0011)

    Seagate

    Vs

    Western Digital RE4 1 TB SATA HDD ( WD1003FBYX)

    Western Digital

Which one should I use? Which would be better for my server?

    Thanks,

    DM :)

They are both 7200rpm drives so you'll see very little to no difference between the two, the Seagate has a 6Gbp/s interface but the spindle isn't fast enough to make any noticeable difference over 3Gbp/s.

Any reason you're putting an enterprise grade drive into a home server? A WD Red 1TB would likely be fine for a home server?

Yes a close call between them; it is just that I have both of them available left over from other projects that I didn't go through with :)

I don't think there's going to be any noticeable difference between them, use the one with the most warranty remaining :D
