HD Clone looks OK, but they limit the speed of the copy on the freeware version which puts me off.

SUCCESS!

From start to finish it took about 3 hours to copy roughly 300GB. But most importantly I plugged the freshly imaged drive in and the machine booted right up, none the wiser. I partitioned the difference (about 630GB) and now I need to work on getting her steam directory moved over to the new partition.

Thank you guys so much for all the suggestions. When I last tried this a few weeks ago I was ripping my hair out with frustration! This is freaking 2013, why is cloning a hard drive so COMPLICATED!?

It worked like a champ. So much so that if I end up with a need to clone many more drives in the future I may just spring for the paid version.

I got my girl's steam folder moved over and shes been busy downloading games onto the new drive (so much room for activities!).
