    26 dead :-(

At least 26 people killed in attacks on Brussels airport and a central metro station

Two blasts at Zaventem airport - one probably a suicide bomber, officials say

Airport blasts kill 11, wound 81, says Belgian health minister

At least 15 people killed and 55 injured in Maelbeek metro station bombing

Prime Minister Charles Michel appeals for calm and solidarity

The blasts come days after the capture of Salah Abdeslam, the main fugitive in the Paris attacks in November

This one hits close to home for me - I travel through BRU very frequently, usually arriving first thing Tuesday morning.

But, what are you going to do?

I've spent 11 hours at Brussel-Zaventem, last time In was in Belgium, it was as safe as any other airports.

And the inevitable 'but why din't the stop it?', 'how did they not know' mess starts...

All things like this show imo is how daft the likes of the Investigatory Powers Bill are...

'yeah look we didn't spot the needles this time but it's ok cos we've ordered more hay... so next time... yeah next time we'll get the needles...'

As with the Paris attacks those involved were also already known by all relevant security agencies, there were warnings beforehand, but ultimately the attacks weren't prevented.

The maddening thing here has to be that even with the attackers known years in advance, such attacks still cannot be prevented. I would agree with the 'more hay' comment by RedFlames here: these agencies need to do some soul-searching, not drown themselves in even more irrelevant data.
