Thanks for writing a guide. I don't think I have ever used Fedora. I have been using Suse for ages.
Would the best version to get for trying this guide be the 64-bit version 10 as in your sig? Also, do
you use KDE or Gnome? I use KDE on Suse Linux, but I will give Gnome a go if that is what you
    are using.

Yes, it'll be Fedora 10 x86_64 for the moment. Or at least that'll be the platform I've tested, but I wouldn't expect a problem with the 32bit version. KDE or GNOME. Whichever you prefer, really. It makes no difference from a folding point of view. I'll update for Fedora 11 when it's released, if necessary.

I've finished packaging all the required extra software in RPM format, so it'll be nice and easy to install. Hopefully I'll get around to finishing the guide and posting it later on this evening, but today is not going quite as planned so may have to be tomorrow.

For the moment, if you're interested in going forward with this. Install Fedora 10 x86_64. If you don't enable the updates repo during the install, run
    Code:
    su -c 'yum update'
from a console after you reboot for the first time (to bring your install up to date) and I'll take you from there when the guide is finished.

Thanks JackOfAll for your time with helping us :thumb:

I installed Fedora 32bit on an old laptop and even managed to get the linux smp client working on it, was getting naff ppd (1.6ghz centrino duo) so now just using it for surfing hehe.

I will install to my main machine soon and dual boot with xp.

    Cheers.

No problemo! It's a pleasure. If it helps others have a good folding experience with Linux then I've achieved my aim. Especially, if it 'bursts the bubble' on this idea that GPU2 folding on Linux is akin to Mission Impossible.

Guide will be done soon. The more guinea pigs (and feedback), the better the guide will be.

Well you already know that I will be using this once the farm is in it's rack ;)

So thanks again for writing this! I think you should change your tagline to "Resident Linux Folding Guru" ;)

Tooooo risky ;) The last time someone called me a guru, the following day I managed to lock-up 9 Solaris servers in 3 datacenters - London, New York and Hong Kong! Chuckle.

LOL if given the opportunity to go on site to do repairs, I believe I would "accidentally" lock them up myself ;)

I remember a great deal of shouting. Don't recall any offers of a free holiday, though. :)

Sorry for the delay. I've been re-distributing GPU's after the this weeks problems with the ASRock mb. Anyway, it's left me with a spare Core2 Q6600, mb and GTX260. So the plan is tomorrow, I'm going to finish the guide by following it myself on a new build. I'll post it after its been road-tested. ;)
