    Hi All,

Long story short, one of the reasons we wanted to be part of bit-tech was because it had such a strong/ passionate forum community.

Hopefully you've already felt the benefit of the changes we have made.

I could be wrong, but I feel a community as passionate as bit-tech would enjoy some events whereby forumites could meet up, see new tech, discuss upcoming products with manufacturers directly and generally benefit from being part of, in my opinion, the best enthusiasts community on the web.

So I want to ask you this:

If we could organise some live events, what would you want to see?

Here's what I think would be cool (for what it is worth)

    Game tournaments
Overclocking on new boards with some OC experts
    Playing with the latest peripherals
    Modding classes/ seminars
Q&As with engineers so you can get better understanding of WHY they make products like they do

I would LOVE to know what you guys would be interested in seeing.

    HOWEVER

The ideas of what you would like to see/ know would have to have some value to the manufacturers who took part. It's no good suggesting ideas that would put companies in an awkward position through fanboyism/ frustration as then they would never want to have direct contact with you again. This is just reality, and that isn't just in the bit-tech world.

So what would you guys want to see? What would make you feel like you had an awesome Bit-tech Big Day Out?

I, or we I should say, really want to give this community some days to remember. Here is your chance to shape what we can do :)

    Thanks,

    John

All of the idea's you have listed are sound and I'm sure you will get a good responce to the "Day out" event, these events are always far to far away for me to attend tbh but there's plenty who would.

There is always going to be a danger of fanboyism rearing it's ugly head.

Hit the nail on the head with those suggestions! :thumb: As for the second question, I'd feel like I had an awesome Bit-Tech day if:
    - I'd learnt something interesting, be it about modding or otherwise
    - I'd managed to meet all these people i've been interacting with on here
    - I'm able to see a rig of this sites calibre in the flesh. I missed the last iSeries event because I was on holiday.. And i'm in the middle of moving out when the next one hits, so I dont know if i'll be able to go see them there! :duh:

If we can also make it involve copious amounts of food and beer then I'm there. :D

Edit: As best you can, please do try to include us northern folk please. ;)

I'd add that if you're going to do any of this, maybe consider a Twitch stream or something similar. That way anyone not in the UK could tune in and watch.

Game tournaments could be online, with passwords so any BTer could join.
    Overclocking could be streamed.
    Modding classes/seminars could be streamed.
Q&A can be streamed - similar to the Hexus TV Q&A i've seen them do.

Obviously it would increase the amount of work required, but you wouldn't need to do all, or even any, of them. And they could be pretty casual.

Are you old enough to Drink now?! I don't believe it!

If you provide copious amounts of beer, I want copious amounts of Ice Tea and Peach Juice, because I don't drink. :D

A Twitch stream sounds awesome! It could be set up quite easily.. Just have a Tiny little ITX pc with a webcam on it that you could move and stop the stream whilst moving!
Or power it on a Pico PSU and have an XLR extension cable so you never need to power down. Provided your XLR is long enough.. And if you're going that far, why not mod in a 7" screen into the case to have a complete system! That'd be an epic build log!

Mmmmm... I haven't had Ice Tea in ages!

Only comment I'd make is hold something up north... and no, I don't mean Leeds or Manchester...

for once I'd like to be able to actually go to one of those type of things without having to flog spare internal organs to cover rail fare to ultimately spend more time on the train than at the actual event...

    Northern folk...
Please, what about us at the other end of the South coast...
It sounds like a great idea though, vendors, competitions, etc.
Would it be only open to the BT community or would it be a more public thing with access for anyone?
I like the idea of streaming stuff that'd be great

Where'd be a good place up North then?

We're all minted down south and can jump on our private jets of course :D

Never really a good location for all, all you can do is choose a place fairly central with good motorway/rail links etc.

I would like to see some of the much discussed forthcoming hardware on display/demoed etc, rift/morpheus etc. Along with what you have already mentioned, oh and a Heli pad for me :p

Perhaps people can display some of there mods there?

Newcastle, easily accessible by road or rail... Not short of venues to hold events... The beer's [relatively] cheap, some of it's even drinkable... Also close enough to the border that any Scots won;t get nervous... ;)

I know it'll put some of the southerners in the same position i'm in but it was more a rant at the [huge generalisation incoming] general oblivious ignorance by most southerners of anything north of Leeds/Manchester...

The number of time I've heard 'what's the problem? it's up north... it's in Leeds/Manchester/Birmingham' [delete as appropriate]... it's still 2-4 hours [on a good day] and £60-100... as for London... well it'd be cheaper to go to Amsterdam than London from here...

TL-DR, it'd be nice to have an event on my doorstep for once, one that won't cost me an arm and a leg to get to/attend...

    Move South?

Everything's much more cramped and expensive down here, but it is on average 2°C warmer all year round :thumb:

Get the train to Edinburgh and fly down to Gatwick :) Cheap as chips.

FWIW - to get from Brighton to London, a journey of 55ish miles, it sometimes costs 50 quid.

Jump in a car with a few people and split costs, doddle, Newcastle isn’t that bad to get too and nor get away from :) I bought my car from Merc in Teesside (which is almost there :) )the other month as it was a few k cheaper than what I can get down here, got there and back (Bristol) on a tank of fuel, no bother, well apart from time I suppose, I did book the travelodge which added to cost.

But some midway place won't be as bad as that journey.
