So I ordered mine, but in my zeal to complete the order, I forgot to select my shipping method so I got stuck with the dirt shipping. Should be here late next week. Until then, any owners on this forum yet? Care to share your experiences/thoughts so far on the card?
A member from ZiiP gaming community that i play with has one. He has to shout over the stupidly loud exhaust fan on teamspeak so we can tell what hes trying to say. Thats or hes trolling us and actually lives on airport runway.
Lol. They look like the smart buy though. Bosh on some water cooling and you have saved £100 off the other x version
I'm going to look again in the new year once the drivers have matured a bit and the third-party coolers have hit the market (and review sites). If it's anything like the 79XX cards they'll be about 20% faster after a few driver tweaks! Plus I fully expect more capable coolers to unleash a fair bit more performance.
Stock 7970. Stock 6990. Stock 5970. Stock 4890. Stock 4870 X2. Stock 4870. Stock 3870 X2. All used the very same Delta fan. The same one being used in the 290 and 290X. So the 290 is no louder than many cards before it.
Time for AMD to use a better fan perhaps if its 7-8 generations old. Would help explain why its so poor.
People still use gentle typhoons and they must be nearly as old. If you take the time to read up, you'll find its not the fan that is poor at all, but AMDs aggressive profiles, set up to keep the card from throttling at maximum load, and thus providing amazing performance at a bargain price, relative to the competition.
that does not make it ok though does it, just means there not learning Should of known you would swoop in to defend AMD at all costs That aside, there still be best card in there range. So long as you like the sound of a boeing 747 whispering sweet nothings into your ear drum.
Absolute nonsense! The design of the shroud affects the noise of the fan more than the fan itself as it's the rush of air drawn in or forced through that's audible. Also, the hotter the card, the quicker the fan runs therefore making more noise. The 290/290X is hotter than previous generations, therefore noisier. The fact that the same delta fan is used is neither here nor there and as usual, AMDAndy strikes again.
Even if I were willing to spend this sort of money on a GPU, I'd pass on the R290 for now until we see what custom cooling solutions the usual suspects come up with. Until then, it's just too hot and noisy for my liking, although the price/performance ratio is tremendous.
I'll reserve judgement on the noise until I'm running it, but at thr moment I'm not too worried about it. It's gonna be in a large, open room (finished basement) with an air purifier running full tilt next to the bunny's house (those things, my god) and probably a TV on as well. If there's a decent, well priced aftermarket cooler that I can attach, and the noise/heat is just too much, then I'll consider that some time down the line. Or maybe I'll get stupid and create a GPU loop in my system. Sent from Bittech Android app
Resorting to insults because you're wrong? How mature. Have you ever wondered why so many forum members dislike you so much? You can now add immaturity to lack of knowledge, attitude problem and fanboyism. Way to go.
I guess you missed the irony. Did you hear that big whoosh there? because I did. If you need it pointed out? if people are going to be vapidly childish then I shall return in kind. But hey, if you came to wave around your moderator sword of powah then who am I to stop you? This forum brims with petulance all the time. Why should I be the victim of it when I can join in the fun? /big whoosh.
Hilariously if you read back you'll find you were the one to start with the insults. And you've continued with them there. So, to return in kind - go roger yourself with a pineapple sideways.
