    hi all

im having problems getting the V7 client working on Ubuntu

i started following the guide on stanfords website

when i select the install manager to install the fahclient its already installed i assume its the 6.34 even tho ive deleted the v6.34 files...

so i click reinstall... and i believe it reinstalls it t5o v7? , but no pop up appears to add my donar name/team number etc as it says it would in the install guide.

i then installed fahcontrol.... that went ok...

if i go to applications/sceince fahcontrol is there...

it loads up and stays on connecting...

i click on configure but because im not online theres not tabs to input all my info etc

so i click start local client at the bottom and i just get an error message:

'the local client exited unexpectedly, please check for errors in the log file in the following directory:

    /home/kirk46/.FAHclient

restart the client? yes or no

there is no .FAHclient file in that directory

    im stuck :wallbash:

Ive just realised that the V7 client on my main rig and my 4P folding rig have the same ip and port?

    Hi kirk46,

No two computers on the same network should have the same IP address. Are both machines set to get the IP address from DHCP server, normally your router, or set manually?

To find out whats running on your linux machine type the following:

    Code:
    top
You should then see the top applications and how much processing they are taking up. FAH should be taking 100% x the number set by smp flag. Defaults to maximum available.

You need to press ctrl + c to exit.

    Ahhh.

127.0.0.1 is localhost and is only relevant to the local machine.

    All computers have localhost (127.0.0.1)

If FAHControl was controlling a remote machine then that machines IP address will be shown instead of 127.0.0.1. :)

To list all processes that are running type the following in a terminal:

    Code:
    ps -A
For me I have three processes running for folding:

    1281 ? 00:06:37 FAHClient
    3019 ? 00:00:03 FAHCoreWrapper
    3023 ? 11:18:00 FahCore_a4

Can you post your results and results for top please?

On my server and Q6600 I am using 12.04 64bit.

When I installed FA on my server I downloaded the .deb file and then double clicked on it to install. It used the software centre to install it.

    Graphical interface on that one.

For my Q6600 I had to use terminal and use the following command as in the FAH v7 install guide:

    Code:
    sudo dpkg -i --force-depends fahclient_7.1.52_amd64.deb
It then prompted me for name, team and passkey. Thankfully I could copy n paste over putty. :)

For both I didnt need to run a command to start them as they were already running right after the install.

For FAHControl I have only managed to install it on my server as it does require a GUI and currently my Q6600 is lacking that.

Same again on the server, downloaded the .deb file and double clicked on it to install with the software centre.

The Q6600 is in the garage with no monitor.

With no monitor attached Ubuntu doest start the GUI.

Bit of moving around required this weekend. :hehe:

Upgrading in Ubuntu will always upgrade sequentially.

You should get another option to upgrade to 11.10 and then to 12.04. I think. :D

I always find a fresh install best, but thats becasue on my server the OS resides on a 100GB partition on the Raid, so doesnt affect my data. :thumb:

Did it ask you for your username, team and passkey?

Try running the following in a terminal window:

    Code:
    FAHClient
If this works and you get the following:

Try then running FAHControl from the terminal.

    CTRL + c to terminate. :)

Linux is case sensative for commands.

You need to type as follows:

    Code:
    FAHClient
