Hey guys, just wondering what flavour Linux you are using these days for folding on?

I'm after a version with a good Kernel for folding, I've been using Ubuntu 10.10 for last few years as it was always it was the best to fold on but as its not supported any more I was wondering what to try next? I did try Ubuntu 11.10 once but I actually made a very noticeable less amount of PPD so went back to 10.10.

Is the new 12.04 any good for folding on? Also wondering whether the v7 Linux client was worth a bash?

Any feedback greatly received chaps :thumb:

Also interested in this. Actually, I'm more interested in what makes a certain distribution-version combo better. I suppose the kernel makes the biggest impact, but it would be good to know what other libraries/utilities make a difference.

I've always used Slackware, and am used to compiling my own kernels. I've always wanted to study the impact (on folding) of the different options in the kernel, but never found the time (finding a higher stable overclock and then folding on it seemed like a better use of time and electricity) and the current weather doesn't allow any kind of folding. I'll probably get to it from October on, and I'll share here my findings.

I'm using 12.04, but mainly becuase I need that version to run MythTV v0.25 without having to faff around. :)

Also installed 12.04 on my Q6600, but thats because it was the version I had o nthe memory stick at the time. :hehe:

No sure if there are any benefits to it thoguh.

    I use Ubuntu 12.04 with V7 on a 2600K @ 4.5GHz - works fine.
    I use Linux Mint 12 with V7 on a 2600K @ 4.4GHz - works fine
    I use Ubuntu 11.04 with 6.34 on my 3930K @ 4.3 GHz - works fine
When my 4P system is built and tested I will go straight for V7 (probably with Ubuntu 12.04) and run bigadv or bigbeta.

I found my issue was ububtu 10.10 was too old for the current V7 client.

I had to use an older version of V7, but I will probarly upgrade to 12.04

    I'm Folding on Ubuntu 10.04, 10.10 and 12.04 - all with v6.34.

Edit: Now moved them all to 12.04 LTS

@coolamasta - I've not done a detailed comparison, but they look broadly the same from what I can tell.
