    Hello,

    Dell has just release it's new super wide display, a 21:9 aspect monitor. It's 29inch, 2560 x 1080 resolution, 5ms response time, and of course, white LED backlight

    As connectivity, it features:
    -> 4x USB 3.0 hub
    -> VGA
    -> DVI
    -> 1x Display port IN
    -> 1x Display port OUT
    -> 1x mini Display Port IN
    -> 1x HDMI

    The Monitor is one of the first monitors that features Display Port 1.2, it looks like, as it has Display Port OUT, that means from 1 plug from your GPU (assuming it supports DP 1.2 FULLY), you can daisy chain several monitors (up to 4x 1920x1200)

    The monitor can be height adjusted and can tilt and rotate. Of course, due to its super long width, it cannot be put into landscape.

    It's currently only available in Australia (http://accessories.ap.dell.com/sna/...e_bnrank=0&baynote_irrank=0&~ck=baynoteSearch) it should be coming everywhere in the next few days.

    The price is 662,20$ Australian currency.

    Using it in landscape could be useful for coding, but otherwise it seems pointless to me.

    This.

    Not sure if awesome or awful.

    Is it even IPS?

    Probably. Dell UltraSharp series uses all LG IPS panels, and LG has a 21:9 aspect ratio panel (coming in January)

    Eh ? Coders dream ? Sorry, but i will take extra height any time over extra width. And to use this one in pivot, one has to take special classes for neck training from F1 pilots :D.

    Still, a bit better than Toshiba Satellite U840W laptop with their 14.4" 1792x768 21:9 display :D.

    It's for movies, right? Philips have been experimenting with 21:9 TVs for a while now.

    Philips pulled out because sales were abysmal. And NEC with Alienware (using NEC technology) tried it with gaming, also did not work.

    LG and Dell (using LG panels) are now targeting these panels for desktop computers work environment instead of movies. I guess they want to see if this strategy will work.Sadly they are 1080 in height, and this is not a good start to attract people who do heavy multitasking to be interesting in such display.
    I don't think it will really work.

    Depending on the price, I'll consider it myself. It's IPS, larger than my current 23'', won't require a beastly GPU to game on like multi-monitor solutions and cheaper than a 27''.

    at 2560 x 1080, it's a coder's worst nightmare.

    stick with 2560 x 1440 27inch monitor. same width, 33% more vertical space.

    this widescreen business is getting beyond stupid, I can only see the stupidest people buy this monitor. this 29inch monitor has LESS viewing area than 27inch. here's the maths:
    3:4:5 triangle is 5 units diagonally. viewing area = 24 unit square.
    1:5:5.1 triangle is 5.1 units diagonally. viewing area = 10 unit square.

    in this case:
    this 29inch 21:9 monitor has viewing area of 304.5 inches square.
    the 27inch 16:9 monitor has viewing area of 311.5 inches square.
    24inch 16:10 monitor has viewing area of 258.8 inches square.

    you have to fail miserably at maths to think going wider actually gives you more viewing space.

    If it is priced anywhere like the LG, then it is a failure right at the start.

    I mean, are you kidding me ? €599 for 2560x1080 29" ? When you can get ZR2740 for €610 or U2713 for €540 ?

    Think phillips already make a 21:9 ratio tv that does not sell well and is some obscene price ( Above a £1000)
