I currently game at 1920x1200 and my 275 manages but I would like to be able to turn things upto max on some of the other more demanding games and to smooth things out with a little more horse power. So is it worth the extra money, probably an extra £130 to get the MSI GeForce GTX 560 Ti TWIN FROZR II and sell my XFX 275 XXX for around the £80 mark.
If you can afford to do it then go for it, From what I can gather a 460 is about as fast as a 280, which is slightly faster than a 275. A 560 is quite a bit faster than a 460 so your going to seee an improvement in overall grunt, plus newer features will be better optimised, and you'll have tesselation when the games that use it eventually arrive.
If you can buy it quickly Scan currently have the MSI 560 Twin Frozr on it's today only deals for ~£190.
I recommend something else. This is what I am going to do. Granted it means that some games for a few months won't be played at max max max setting at 1920x1200, with my GTX 260. But I can hold, and OC my GTX 260. Now, I recommend to wait for Nvidia project name Kepler. It will be a 28nm chip, probably called GTX 600 series. And is expected to be out this year.. or early next year: If Nvidia road-map is true:
I scanned through the today only section and somehow managed to miss that, cheers for that. Thanks good bytes but I'm not one to wait for the next best thing or I could be waiting forever, I've skipped a generation by going for a 500 series and thats how I tend to work, If it was garaunteed to be in a couple of months then maybe.
Recently did a switch from a GTX 280 to a GTX 570 myself - ramming up the AA on older games is always nice, as is finally running Crysis on Very High
...and from the review of the twin frozr its pretty much on a par with the 570 isn't it, if only falling a little short.
I'll be getting a 560 in a coupla weeks, definately the twin frozr. Apart from the performance will be nice to have a card that doesn't idle over 60c
Scan's today deal has a MSI Frozer listed at £190 which is a terrific price. I managed to get a Gigabyte 560 SOC @ 1GHz, I believe I have a rare card since they're not making it anymore... i.e. it isn't a stable overclock lol
This^... for next year... 560 for this year... when the 600 series arrives, the corridors of BT will be alive with rumours of the 700 series... So enjoy this year with a great gaming GPU and then look at your options when the 600 series comes out...
From the product page for the Gigabyte card: "*Warning: Running stress test (such as FurMark 1.9.0) may potentially damage your card." Source: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3729 First time I have seen a warning about using FurMark on a card! Is there something about the 560 series in general that we don't know about or is it that card in particular?
Got the MSI GTX560 twin frozr and love it. Cool quiet and powerful. All really depends on if your card is struggling to run what your currently playing. Whats the rest of your system?
AMD 955BE, MSI 790 GD70, 1gb ram, 1TB F3, 128gb C300 SSD, HP ZR24 monitor. Waiting to see what bulldozer brings to the table, if its good then I will upgrade and this will be my system for the next two years or so.
