    Hi all,

Well, I'm new to the forum and have just started with folding.

What I would like to know is, what is the difference exactly between the CPU and the GPU2 client? Does the GPU2 utilise the graphics card and the cpu, or just the graphics card?

    Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum, and our folding team :)

The standard CPU client uses a single execution unit of your CPU (there is a separate SMP client for multi-core CPUs).

The GPU2 client uses any ATI or Nvidia GPU with a unified shader architecture, although it does use a tiny bit of CPU as well (just a few %).

    Hi Lizard.

Which is the better of the two? CPU or GPU?

You should be able to run both on a modern PC. Depending on what spec your hardware is the GPU clients generally produce more ppd (points per day).

One last question... I've installed the x86 version, and probably need to install the multi core version (I have an i7 975), which version of the SMP do i download and install, MPICH or DEINO?

i use the mpich client as i run 64bit os on all my rigs and dont forget to use the 6.24 drop in binary as the 6.23 is out of date.
    cheers spunky
