I know I'm a little behind the times, but that's what happens when you have kids... Absolutely loved single player BFBC2 but read the SP mode in BF3 was poo. Not sure if that's fair comment or not? Or do I buy Far Cry 3? I do have Crysis and Far Cry 2 already installed but, for whatever reason, unplayed. Do I just sink some time into these instead? Only bothered with single player and looking for something that'll both wow me and engross me for the winter... Thanks chums! Cleggy.
You have Crysis, but you haven't played it? What is wrong you?!?! Play it, PLAY IT NOW! It suffers a bit in that after 'the trip through the mountain' the last third of the game is a bit underwhelming, but the slightly underwhelming last third of Crysis is still better than Crysis 2 and 3. If you've got Warhead as well, that's great too. 2 and 3 are somewhat disposable, whereas in one you play a level, then go back and figure out how you're going to play it differently. Far Cry 3's a lot of fun, it's broadly similar to 2 gameplay wise, but they fleshed everything out and made it work the way the hype said 2 would. Just look out for the deadly wrist-breaker sharks. BF3 single player is dire, take the TV station level from Modern Warfare, stretch that to six and a bit hours and fill it with Quick Time events, including one level that is a twenty five minute continuous QTE, that's BF3's campaign. Perhaps look at the two Metro games? 2033 is one of my favourite FPS games ever, Last Light is also excellent, but not quite as utterly ruthless as 2033.
I found Crysis to be one of the dullest FPS I've ever played, I've never bothered to complete it. I didn't think the graphics were all that either. I agree with playing the Metro games, I've only played the first one but it was pretty good, just make sure to play it on the hardest setting, I played it on Hardcore and it was a bit too easy, I wish I'd chosen Ranger Hardcore instead.
Bulletstorm Mass Effect Dead Space Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon - Not played this but thought you might want to look into it Borderlands Space Marine - it's been too long since I've played this so can't remember what i thought of it, probably neither great nor bad. Either way, start with the 2 games you have and see what you think of them imo
The whole crysis series has gone kinda awol from the orginal premise. The first part of the orginal is awesome the rest is basically just another fps game. Would not really recommend any single player fps game at the moment. Farcry 3 is fun its free roam play style. Its awful co op though. If you can find MW 1 2 3 on the cheap its got a good story to it that is worth the play through. COD actually has one of the better single player games compared to its big rival Battlefield. BF3 campain is best avoided its awful. Not played BF4 camp cant imagine it been a great improvement.
+1000 for Metro Crysis is good fun I found (haven't played it all the way through, but the beginning is great ) If you're into Westerns I'd recommend Call of Juarez, a couple of patches solved a lot of the issues it had, and I really enjoy it. Recently completed the 2nd which wasn't as good, but the first is well worth playing in my opinion
Battlefield 4 (Mp only, SP sucks again) The Whiter 1 and 2 Stalker series. (lots of great texture mods out there) Crysis 3 SP was great, i know im going to get some hate for saying that! amnesia... if you like scary stuff and was never fond of your underwear or going to sleep.
Another vote for the Stalker series here. Really great games once you get into them. Just make sure you use the texture mods. Call of Pripyat is my favourite, Clear Sky I enjoyed the least.
Bioshock Infinite is a must. Crysis also, 1 and Warhead especially. An easy game to sink many hours, it is easily paused to deal with other things in your life, also seems non-violent at a glance is FTL: Faster Than Light. I installed it on my girlfriend's laptop and played it quite a lot when she's doing other things like putting on make-up, cooking and erm..... sleeping. (last one is not recommended)
Thanks folks, it did take some courage to admit owning Crysis but not having played it... I'll look out for the Metro's on special too. And yep, I do have all of the Fallout 3/DLC and have only invested a couple of hours. So the moral of this story - use contraceptives
In fact, while I have a spare moment, here's my installed FPS collection and progress... Alien vs Predator - 1% (didn't like the controls, not as good as the original, etc...) Arma 2 - 0% (will get into this, I promise) BFBC2 - 100%, one of my favourite SP FPSs outside Half Life Bioshock - 40% (lost the thread somewhere, I will revisit) Black Mesa - 10% (great remake but lacks the original's charm) Borderlands - 1% (picked my character, mucked about, liked it, not played since) COD MW2 - 80% (liked it) Call of Juarez, Gunslinger - 20%, like it a lot but not that immersive Call of Juarez, Bound In Blood - 40%, like it a lot, not sure why I've not invested more time. Maybe it's the shooting mechanics I'm not keen on? Crysis - 0%, enough said Crysis Warhead, same Dead Space - not sure Dishonoured - 50%, up there with Half Life, etc... Far Cry 2 - 10%, really enjoying it but hit a bug and can't progress without restarting HL2 - completed. Yum! HL2 ep 1 - completed I think HL2 ep 2 - completed I think Kane & Lynch. meh And those in my "RPG" category: Deus Ex Human Revolution, bought in sale, never launched it Fallout 3, 10%, love it but fear it'll be a time-sink Fallout New Vegas, not launched it, same fears as above Mass Effect, not launched it Stalker, Shadow Of Chernobyl, launched it, got spooked (played it late), never returned Stalker, Call of Pripyat - never launched it XCOM Enemy Unknown - can't get it to run for more than 10 minutes without crashing. So, looking at that I guess spending more money is daft. I guess I should wait for the sale and enjoy what I have. Out of interest, am I weird to have all these great games and not have really got stuck in???
