So guys thinking of putting a smallish rig together for my wife for xmas.

Her main use for the machine is going to be Facebook games, but I'm hoping to introduce her to some simple steam games and maybe Wow. Screen is a 1080 tv / monitor. All in all I want to keep the cost down as low as possible however want avoid moanage that it's too slow.

Parge has a nice hadron air case for sale. So that's case & psu taken care of.
Looking for some itx mobo and cpu suggestions.

I have memory, ssd and vga if we go intel.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Nims

If you have a gpu spare and you plan to introduce her to games then I would say intel all the way.

Had a rummage around and found that I have a CPU that I have assigned a task to, (also have a board but its m-atx and ideally I want to build something small.) CPU I found is a Xeon E3 -1220 V2 so that should have plenty of ooof

Quite! I would imagine that eBay is your best bet perhaps? I suspect you may have more joy with H77 than Z77 at a 'reasonable' price! I wonder if a B75 board might work otherwise?

I have a z77 MATX board already that I could use, however that means Id have to source a case and psu rather than the evga hadron parge is selling.

    Thanks for the offer though.

Sourcing a case and PSU shouldn't be that hard. What is the GPU length and how much PSU do you need?
