Hi folks, I was wondering if anyone would like to give any help or constructive feedback on a website I have been developing? The website was developed to produce a one stop shop, dedicated to showing the console commands for many PC games that will enable the FPS counter, allowing the player to keep an eye on their framerate while in game. The idea came about after many hours goggling to find such commands for many of my games. I want to add other useful commands to the list for each game once I gain more time, but for the mean time if you would like to see a game added or give some feedback post below or use the contact form on the site. So please head over to www.showmyfps.com and enjoy. Many thanks Hg PS if anyone has stumble or digg please be so kind as to 'like' the main page for others to find it, thanks again http://digg.com/pc_games/Show_My_FPS_com
That's a handy site to have bookmarked (which I've now done). Thanks for that. It looks well laid out and easy to use. Simple and intuitive.
I like If you did add other useful commands it would defiantly have a permanent in my bookmarks... Oh, but make sure you put localised commands for opening the console up (I spent faaaaaar too long trying to open the source console the first time before realising that I needed to find the British keyboard option...)
Hi Guys an update on the site I have started looking at adding other important commands to the games listed, however as many of these games have 100's of commands and I want to try and keep it simple it may take some time to sort through these to get to the main ones, however I have made a start with Quake Live so tell me what you think... http://showmyfps.com/games/quakelive That said if anyone knows any useful commands for other games please PM me or mail me them and i will add them to the site
1. The design is bland. 2. The logo is unmemorable and too big. 3. Your navbar is completely redundant. This is the type of site that people find from a Google search, find what they want, then never return. You don't need site news, contact pages, "about" pages, or "external link" pages. You could perhaps include a small contact link at the bottom of each page, but it's not worthy of a navbar entry. Lose the navbar. 4. Given the nature of the site, you're going to want to read up on how to use titles, and META tags to make your site more popular with search engines. 5. Don't use blank paragraphs or H1s for padding. You can do whatever you want with CSS. 6. Don't use inline CSS styling or HTML alignment. 7. Use your headings a bit better. "Showmyfps.com" should be your H1, then work down from there. I've attached a 2-minute mockup in MS Paint to show just how simple I think the site should be. Excuse the terrible colours, etc. - it's just to show you how simplicity works.
Mary Jo, thats a nice simple frontpage i like it and will try and see how i can update my site to suit
try the site now, a new logo is underway and were making a few more changes to the design, but its more like that clean google front page
Ditch the drop down menu if you get a chance and use something with auto complete as you type. As you add more games it's going to become a pain to scroll that list. Also, you can make a really cool looking list, with logos and everything if you wanted using a bit of lovely jquery and ajax.
It was just fine the way it was. Keep the logo - You have a fair bit of screen real estate to fill. Keep the NavBar - even if it isn't used much it's not imposing Keep the design monocrome - so as not to overpower the game logos And whatever you do don't use an auto complete here's why: Morrow <<<<<< The Elder <<<<<<<<<< Elder Scrolls: Morrowind
I think i will keep the site pretty much as it is now, i will look at having a basic navibar or possible a few links on the front page, i.e. contact, submit etc As regards the logo, I have got a very talented guy looking at some alternative designs, nothing too flashy but something which looks professional and will accommodate the design to date. Not sure if to keep the drop down or do away with it, however for now I can’t see no reason why it must go but as the game catalogue grows it may be a case that we have to look at alternatives. But so far i thank everyone for their input and hope the site will be of use to many.
While meta tags are nowhere near as important as they used to be, they certainly shouldn't be excluded!
Why are you using so many paragraph tags? Make a bunch of divs and give em padding/margin. Center the keyboard layout picture Also.. what is this? Code: <h1>Quake Live</h1> <p> <img alt="" src="file:///C:/Users/Hg/AppData/Local/Temp/moz-screenshot.jpg"/> <img alt="" src="file:///C:/Users/Hg/AppData/Local/Temp/moz-screenshot-1.jpg"/> </p> Avoid doing inline underline/bold/etc: Code: <br/> <span style="text-decoration: underline;">New binds</span> <br/> Just create a class for them, i.e. Code: <span class="title">Stuff</span> Why is your footer set to hidden? You should keep the copyright notice You don't need a background image if you're only going to do 1 color, just use this CSS attribute: Code: background-color:#<color> And like mentioned, definitely use meta keywords and descriptions, and maybe put up a favico
Hi, I'm helping on the coding side and just thought I'd put in a quick reply. Some good suggestions, a number of which have already been implemented and will be in the next update to the site. In the update coming out soon, the structure of the content will be changing to cleanup the markup as well as some changes to the HTML. It's what it looks like Again, the next update should stop this happening See above about structure. These styles are applied by the text editor used. Any markup from the site templates is properly styled. We were playing around with styles. Again, see above! The background is a very subtle gradient which is why there is an image specified. Cheers for the reminder about the favicon. As for the meta tags and SEO, it's a secondary priority at the moment but it will be done.
