If this is true, then expect it to be about 50% faster than a HD7970. The above picture shows the huge jump in performance between the current GTX 580 and the next-gen GTX 780, using a Core i7-3960X as a test system, running at 2560×1600 resolution with both AA and AF enabled. Your eyes aren’t deceiving you — that looks like double the performance. Recently some specs of NVIDIA’s next-generation GPU, codenamed "Kepler", are leaked by 3DCenter. Here comes two Kepler GPUs——GK100 and GK104. According to the source, their core frequency and Shader frequency are expected to keep in the same level. GK100 features 1500 CUDA Cores, GDDR 5 memory with memory interface of 512-bit, the performance is close to the dual-core GeForce GTX 590, it’s scheduled to debut in Q2 2012. While GK104 features 1000 CUDA Cores, GDDR 5 memory with memory interface of 256-bit/384-bit as well as core/Shader frequency of over 1GHz, the performance is likely to be slightly higher than that of GeForce GTX 580, it’s expected to arrive in January or February 2012.
Heh once again I will be avoiding the AMD/ATI bullet! Just need to save up to replace my GTX 570 with one of these!
Well if this is true, I expect good competition between the Red and Green corners, which should hopefully lead to some decently-priced, but very powerful, GPU. Those speeds must be absolutely insane. Also looking forward to the folding performance.
From my limited knowledge of German, it says GK100 is due to be released in Q2 2012, and GK104 is beginning/middle Q1 2012
Surely the GF104 would offer 150% the performance of a 590 since it has that amount of cuda cores. Obviously the GPU core speed makes a difference, but a 500 cuda core difference is almost impossible to make up. That along with the suggested release dates which up until now have been mid 2012 at the earliest, makes me suspicious of the rest of the info too. Finally, 1500 shaders on a single core card would be an incredible leap, and and unusual if you look at nvidia history. Since when has their new gen card tripled the shader count of their current top end card?
I don't think I'm too biased in saying that I'll wait to get excited when real benchmarks start coming out. Saying it's a "2" compared the GTX580's "1" isn't exactly detailed and with Q2's still a long way out I won't hold my breath to see how things change from both parties. And as Parge says, such a massive performance step doesn't exactly follow with history. Now the GK104 being slightly more than the GTX580 and coming out January or February 2012? That I'll take at face value. Should cause a nice little price battle with AMD.
So you have HD7970 launching in Q1/2012, with a possibility of the next gen ATI somewhere at end of Q3/Q4 of 2012, but you guys get caught again in the waiting game the NV, like few times before. Not like any of you really need the extra performance in times of console ports .
something is telling me this nvidia marketing and i reckon you will only see a 20% increase performance
Oh noes! I'll have to put up with a mere 2x GTX580s while I wait If it's worth waiting for, who cares? Yeah.. those pesky console ports... like BF3.. 20% over a 580? Unlikely... anyway... we'll see. If that's the case, then I'll buy something else, but I've only just built this rig... I'm in no massive rush.
Yeah gtx580 = 4fps gtx780 = 8fps Nvidia marketing "I know lets show it like this instead" gtx580 = 1 gtx780 = 2
That's really what worries me. I've learned to take everything from PR or Marketing with grain of salt, they each have their own tricks and twists and Nvidia in particular are skilled at making charts and graphs with no real figures. Reminds me of their "is your PC ready for BF3?" tool which checked your system (likely just your GPU tbh) then gave a little bar of varying size saying you're ready or not. It's that kind of oversimplifying that I'm wary of.
i understand your point but correct me if im wrong that would only make sense if it was achieving low numbers such as 4fps on bf to start with, which at that resolution it isnt. if i recall correctly, at 2560x1600, on bf3 gtx 580 gets like 32fps? so these cards apparently get around 60
