Full contact block for a Sapphire 280X. http://www.bit-tech.net/news/hardware/2014/05/23/alphacool-waterblock/1
I feel that it looks cheap, tacky and fairly nasty to be honest. Certainly not something I would expect from a water cooled system.
So it's basically a universal cooler, with large aluminium fins going across the card? I was looking forward to this concept! But if THAT is the end product, i'd rather pay the extra for a specific 3rd party card and get a waterblock that I know exists!
It does look a bit like they have taken a standard water block and then bolted it to a large after market heatsink, i was expecting a full flow water block. I guess if the price is right it beats designing and CNC'ing your own custom block.
The temperature drop without a fan on the VRMs of 40º is very impressive. I've never managed that with a GPU only block, heatsinks AND a fan. The fins will hardly be visible from the sides and providing the price is right could be a winner. In a normal case orientation all you'll see will be one side of a heatsink fin, pretty much like looking at the side of a full cover block.
Clever in the design, if it works that good at not only cooling the card but the VRMs and RAM then Kudos to them....I always put performance over visuals, especially for something that is literally looked on from a side elevation once it's installed.
thank ****, a return to universal gpu blocks and swappable mem/vrm cooling. **** paying 90 quid a pop for a block that only fits 1 specific card. swiftech tried something similar but never really took it far, this looks like a win to me. pop a shroud on top of that or anodise the aluminium and it'll look mint anyway. you wont even have to anodise it, yay. well played alpha-cool, looks like you're getting some more of my money soon.
