    Hi everyone.
Well I finally got my new machine up and running and got folding at home loaded up on it. I've downloaded my first work units and set the slider bar to maximum, and the PC is purring away and heating the study up nicely. I'm running a 4770k with 2 x GTX680's in SLi. Each GTX680 is producing 29k PPD and the 4770k at 100% is doing about 40k. Is that about right? If those in the know can let me know. I keep reading about putting flags on stuff to increase PPD but I have no idea what that means. I'm planning on running my machine 24/7 so I want to try and get the maximum points possible for the electricity used. Any pointers would be appreciated. Cheers.
    Pete

This doesn't look anything like my folding client! I'm using 7.3.6 and there is no "slots" tab. Am I using the right thing?

There are flags for CPU Folding as mentioned by johnim40 - 'smp' is on by default in v7.3.6, and 'bigadv' and 'bigbeta' are for monster CPU's only (I think more than 24 threads - certainly it is for the latter flag).
You could add 'advanced' to get newer code which comes out of beta testing, but that sometimes comes at a cost of baby-sitting because of bugs/stability.

I think that my starting screen if different to yours. I have just 5 tabs 1. Home 2. Identity. 3. News 4. Help 5. About. None of them have a configure button and none have a clock. I'm a bit stumped. I think I might be using some basic GUI interface for beginners rather than your more advanced one. Any tips?

My GTX680's are down to 21K PPD and my 4770K is doing 26K PPD so I suspect that something is wrong, if a GTX760 is giving 65 - 75K PPD. Is it my drivers or this Beta flag that is the issue?

Are there different interfaces for the Folding @ Home client? I'm still trying to suss out about these flags to get my PPD up, but I haven't made any headway there. My client is on the following web page.

    http://folding.stanford.edu/client/

Is that correct or is there a more advanced client interface that I can use? Any help much appreciated.

    Pete.

v7.3.6 is the latest. There is a configuration option for 'Advanced' and 'Expert' mode in the GUI.

For your PPD, they just announced roll-out of Core 17 to full F@H (not just beta and adv), but in case that hasn't come in to effect yet, use the beta flag for the GPU.

    Hi Doc.
There is no advanced or expert tab or button on my GUI. It's just really basic, and I can't configure anything. I can't even turn the folding off from inside the GUI. There are just the 5 tabs as I said in post #12 but nothing else. On the up side I have worked out how to roll back the Nvidia drivers back to an earlier version. I can see now why it's difficult to persuade people to start folding as it seems to require a lot of technical knowledge.
    Thanks.
    Pete

As a quick after thought, would it be worth me posting a screenshot of my basic client so you can see what I'm talking about. If so, how do I go about doing that? Cheers.

    Hi John.
My new computer is windows 8, recently upgraded to 8.1. That's half my problem as it takes an age working out how to do anything on the damn machine. Also the root of my problem it seems is the starting program that I have installed. Mine is nothing like yours. I was going to send you a screenshot but I am not allowed to send attachments so I can't. How do I get the F@Hcontrol program and not just this very basic client. If you post me an email address then I can send you the screenshot of what I have got installed. I followed you link and downloaded the software again, but it is just the same thing installed again. Help.
    Pete
