You know how people wait in line to buy the latest ipad/xbox/ps4 then smash them in front of the queue of people who didn't get one. Same thing if intel bought this fab and just turned it into a car park cause it didn't want it anyway. Sends AMD some parking vouchers.
Would the bid include any patents of chip manufacturing and design? I imagine IBM has a million of them considering how prolific they patenting is, and how long they have been in the industry.
