We're still about: there's no such thing as the wrong weather, only the wrong gear.

Replaced the bars as they were doing my head in, cable channels were cracking an its just where you put your hands, my own fault for doing cable runs too short. Also gone slightly more narrow on the bars after having my ICS measured. Decided on some fun bar tape as well.

Giant are the largest bicycle manufacturer on the planet by quite a margin. They're basically the Toyota of bicycles, nothing exciting (God forbid!) but they'll roll around and around unexcitingly forever.

Getting there... Even though the powder coater masked off the brake mounts he didn't do them all the way so I have to scrape with a blade. Very time consuming and a PITA.

Restoration of the Devinci is almost complete.

It's been stripped down, sand blasted, given a lovely semi-gloss powder coating, had all new roller needle bearings fitted, freshly serviced Monarch, new shock hardware, new XT BB, new pivot bolts, custom decals. Almost as fresh as the day it rolled out the hand-made Canadian factory.

Shame i'm never going to be able to ride it

It is best to replace the chain and sprockets together. The new chain won't mesh properly with the old sprockets, especially if they are well used (they don't have to look very worn).

Very much this, chances are the teeth are sharktoothed, I noticed this when I put a new chain on, it was slipping an mis shifting every gear, new cassette, worked like a dream.
Did you do the chain the same number of links? An also check some (not many) chains are directional.

My new ride. Well obviously not "new", but newer than the older one

The Ice Spikers are brutal. I had no idea there could ever be so much traction on ice.

Counted the links and made sure they matched , didn't know about chains being directional so will confirm that.

Anyone know anything about customizing bikes and how to approach the whole thing?

I basically want a lightweight roadrace frame, but with disk-brakes and a straight handlebar with little horns, like found on trekking-bikes. In addition I want as little gears as possible, but I'm not sure about those hub gears. I'd prefer oldschool 2x5 gearing like I had on my roadrace bike some 25-30 years ago. Are they even available anymore or is 2x8 the smallest these days.

Is something like this possible to configure, or better yet, can I built something like this myself? Has anyone done something like this allready?
Could I simply buy a cyclocross bike and just slap on a smaller gearset and a straight handlebar?

I really like the Canon Roadlite, if it would have wider tires and less gears for example.

You could get a 7 speed cassette with a single ring up front, keeps the wheel options more open that way as its a normal cassette not a freehub. Or, to keep the ten speed idea just go wit ha 1X10 can be on a road cassette with 11-28T or go insane with a sunrace cassette an get a 11-42T with a something between 32T and 36T up front

Frame wise what type of wheels you looking at? an any preference on material? Framesets are easy enough to get hold of itll be more colours and geometry

Brake wise id err toward hydro if you can, more power, reliable an need little work once setup
