Hit 14st, and fluctuating around that point. My school uniform is getting a bit big, thank goodness we get new shirts next year, as mine gives me an awful muffin top.

Now, just being able to dunk before the season ends...

Well, optimism at its finest right now. The last 3 weeks have been crazy stressful and I've been eating worse, BUT I've also managed to get out to play road hockey and baseball and I'm down to 216.8 from 220 or so in a few short weeks. Considering my diet has been rather poor (last few days had beer to celebrate being done university plus went to a concert) and also eating out more (had fast food twice last week) I'm still managing to lose weight.

The goal with summer is to just stay busy with sports and hopefully try and get the diet back on track, but I'm very optimistic and happy with the progress right now. I'm really never tempted to snack / eat crap or pop anymore, only time I eat bad food is on cheat days, special events or if there's nothing else to eat and that's what my parents bring home.

Well done you.

Any weight loss, is positive gain.

Just out of curiosity, what is your height and age? Have you ever had your BMI checked?

21 (22 on May 8th) and roughly 5'8". When I was at a gym a few years ago it was rather high (roughly 26%) and at the time the gym trainer gave me a free consultation and felt that dropping down to 170 and putting on 5-10 pounds of muscle would be a good goal. My personal goal is 170, maybe 160 but I'm not bothered about muscle / toning / etc. I'm doing this for my own health, ease my arthritis, and just general confidence. Its not that I'm embarrassed about my weight, but after seeing my brother lose roughly 60-70 pounds last year and how much better he looked / felt I really want the same for myself.

Edit:
When I had my BMI done at the gym they just used the handheld thing which I know is the least accurate method as hydration and such can cause the number to change by a few %. I'm been debating the idea of joining a gym but I've had memberships in the past and not gone, and I just didn't feel comfortable there, so for now I'll stick to diet and sports.

You're right about BMI being done at the gym. They usually measure it in the most inaccurate ways.

It's all good that you prefer doing sports than going to the gym. Some people just can't do the stale monotony that comes with staring at a wall or t.v screen until a machine says you're finished for the day.

I used to end up doing just the classes at my old gym, because the machines drove me nuts, Plus with the classes there aren't so many I love myself people there.

On a lighter note, today was weigh in day for me, and I've lost 1.3Kilos (3lbs). Very pleased

Weighed in at 14st 10lb (93kg / 206lbs) this morning - down from 16st 4lb (103kb 228lbs) in January, very happy!

Cut snacks, added healthier meals, reduced meal sizes and excersizing 3-4times a week for an hour, I'd like to take a sport (other than cycling to work) but I've never been very good at much (except basketball 6'5" helps!)

Wow, that's truely fantastic news!

It's funny, that since dieting fads began, the best way to loose way has always been to cut out the crap and take regular exercise. It's such a shame that we're a lazy species and will try anything to cheat at it

At 6'5" 14st must be about the perfect weight now, isn't it?

Indeed, the easiest way to lose weight and be healthier....is to be healthier with excersise and food and not by crappy fad diets!

I believe I am just tipping the 'correct' side of the BMI scale, I certainly feel better for it! I'd like to try seeing what 14st would be like with my height - I think it may be a little too skinny however!

So I checked my weight again this morning and it was 215.6. I'm starting to think that my arthritis medication (2 vimovo pills a day plus weekly methotrexate injections) are having an adverse affect on my weight. I managed to go from 240-220 on my meds in a few months, and I've dropped to from 220 to 215.6 since I got off my meds last Monday for my oral surgery tomorrow. Can't be on my meds as they're blood thinners so I'm supposed to stop a week before and after the surgery.

I go to see my specialist on Friday so I can just ask him about it for curiosity sake. Also, as terrible as this sounds I'll be on a liquid only diet for 3-5 days when the wisdom teeth come out, so should be able to shed a few more pounds with no effort.

BMI isn't really a great indicator of health either. It's good for a very general ball park figure for the average person, but if you're a bodybuilder or rugby player, it's nonsensical. Even for me, I'm sometimes slightly over the "normal" band. for a 5' 9" male.

True.

It's things like Cholesterol and blood pressure that you need to keep more of an eye on.

It's the old height to body weight measurement, that no dietician in their right mind follows anymore. Like you Tang, I'm 5' 9". According to health charts, I should be ten and a half stone.

Trust me, I've been down to eleven stone before, and my friends and family all started thinking I was too thin. I'm comfortable at 12, and don't need a chart to tell me that.

Well I did my tough mudder and it was awesome.

I would recommend it to anyone. Even though it hurts, but that's the running not the event.

We'll have to see how I do for my London Brighton ride now.

You'll enjoy it, its quite amazing. My advice is just to get on every obstacle, and go for it, they're not that bad. Its the 11.5 miles of running in sticky mud thats got me.

Bad news. Slight weight gain, roughly around 14st 3-sh, but sadly my basketball season is coming to an end, competitive sport is out the window since I've got exams, and it seems that I have slightly high blood pressure. Meh.

During exam season exercise is a good way to reset your brain between revision sessions. Try doing some 20 minute runs/bike rides every few hours just to get your mind away from your books.

Another option would be some 15 minute workouts in the garden if you have some gear, like:

Quick skip.

Squats 3x10

Bicep bar curls 3x10

Burpies 3x20.

(I know this is not perfect, its just an idea to build on)

That will get your heart rate up and help you concentrate afterwards.
