Wuyanxu, I agree with you completely, a gimbal is certainly not needed on a tester drone! I'm constantly panicking over the gimbal on the Mavic because it looks so damn dainty! Phenomenal what it does though.

Kronos, if you can source a Dromida Ominus or its equivalent, it's an absolute hoot to fly and tough as old boots.

I think you need to be a little more specific as many models come up under the Dromida Ominus name.

You'll want spare batteries for the Hubsan X4, too. Flight time is officially only quoted as 7-8 minutes, much less if you're filming (I've never measured it). They're quite cheap on Amazon though.

Yeah I saw a few reviews of this after you mentioned it and immediately wanted one. It looks like they're discontinued; the only place I could find them in stock was an Amazon seller asking ~90. Seems to be quite hard to get hold of.

dont know about AP platforms but if you want to get into racing quads... I can help with that one!

Been a hobby of mine for a while and I love building them almost as much as flying them!

My latest build....

And a recent clip where I was just messing about with rates and expo Dvr footage in the lower right is what I see. Hopefully it plays due to copyrighted music.

and it doesnt always go to plan...

and just how fast these things can be.

There is a re-branded one by Revell called the Rayvore. Still pricey enough, but great fun to fly.

The Mavic is certainly a fine looking machine. WAY out of my price range for a hobby though .

Got to be honest, after seeing a few reviews I am very tempted by the Hubsan H502S. I'd definitely want the "professional"/advanced controller though. Annual bonus coming through in a couple of weeks, the money is already burning a hole in my pocket...

EDIT:

Amazing stuff, I'm really quite inspired. A big outdoor quad still worries me somehow, so it'll be indoor only for now.
Going back to Kronos' OP, I've just ordered an Eachine 010 on ebay for my Dad's birthday.
He enjoyed playing with my nephew's quad that size at Christmas, so he can now have a toy of his own.
I think I'll get a battery set and charge splitter if he gets on with oit, and maybe something for me on banggood if I shift some of the dross I'm selling.
Thanks for the interesting content

What did you go for Glenn?
I decided that quick delivery of a couple of days (it being a birthday present...) was worth it (5 or so) over the "7-20 Business days" from China, which could easily be a month, which is what I've had from other Chineses ebay suppliers.
That said, there are some good savings if you're patient. I qute fancy a small camera quad, but need to look into it more first.

Damn this thread, I've been looking at aerial photography quads for a couple of days now! I thought I'd settled on the Hubsan H501S, but now I'm really tempted by the UP Air UPair One. They're similar price ranges, but the UPair One definitely looks to have the better camera system - A 1080P camera is included (not bad quality either from the vids I've seen) but the gimbal mount seems to be compatible with better cameras like GoPros.

As a cheap starter I'd highly recommend the cheap Hubsan quads:

Personally I think that's a good thing (at least for learning): nothing helping me out means that if something goes wrong then it was me that f'ed up, not some on-board module.

About 30 on Amazon at the mo: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hubsan-H107.../dp/B01EL31PLY

I got the Eachine E010 Mini 2.4G 4CH 6 Axis Headless Mode RC Quadcopter RTF this thing which I see has gone up by 4.75 since I paid for mine/
And a spare battery.

Hence the slight gasp towards the end of the vid?

BTW, I've set up a generic thread for quads/multirotors, so as not to hijack Kronos' thread with chatter .

The Eachine E010 for Dad's birthday just arrived, I 'tested' it after fitting the transmitter batteries, a quick hop round the room and charge the lipo before re packing and gift wrapping it...
